New post w/ random thoughts on AI (thread) I will probably get a # wrong, but here we go :) 1/12 OpenAI & Anthropic now at 0.1% of US GDP *each* In a year, AI revenue likely to be 1-2% of US GDP What does AI mean for US GDP growth? Does productivity get lost mismeasured a la internet era?

The secret to 10-minute delivery isn't driver speed. The average delivery distance is shorter than your morning walk. Dark stores are everywhere, hiding in plain sight. I mapped quick-commerce infra in Indian cities. Every dark store, real routing data, actual coverage zones across major urban hubs, across Blinkit, Zepto, and Instamart.

Yesterday I tweeted about visualizing dark stores density in Indian cities using an isochrone map And @anupbhat30 made this in just under an hour! Almost everyone lives a 10 min bike ride away from a dark store. The highest density areas are in fact 10 minutes away on *foot* The surprising find is that there's often multiple stores of the same vendor within a 10 minute bike ride. See it yourself: darkstoremap.in
Deepinder Goyal@deepigoyal

One more thing. Our 10 minute delivery promise is enabled by the density of stores around your homes. It’s not enabled by asking delivery partners to drive fast. Delivery partners don’t even have a timer on their app to indicate what was the original time promised to the customer. After you place your order on Blinkit, it is picked and packed within 2.5 minutes. And then the rider drives an average of under 2kms in about 8 minutes. That's an average of 15kmph. I understand why everybody thinks why 10 minutes must be risking lives, because it is indeed hard to imagine the sheer complexity of the system design which enables quick deliveries. Also, if you've ever wanted to know why millions of Indians voluntarily take up platform work and sometimes even prefer it to regular jobs, JUST ASK any rider partner when you get your next food or grocery order. You will be humbled by how rational and honest they will be with you. Having said that, no system is perfect, and we are all for making it better than today. However, it is far from what it is being portrayed on social media by people who don't understand how our system works and why. If I were outside the system, I would also believe that gig workers are being exploited, but that's not true.

The bear case for AI music is that topping the charts has a lot to do with aura. Listeners self-insert or pretend to relate to the public persona and lifestyle that artists present. An AI model does not possess the kinds of "lore" and "aura" that the masses crave to worship

ok it seems that it's just picked at random between gpt-5 and 5-mini for all of the messages today; I have a free account so I don't have the ability to set the model, but in the last ~4 hours ~50% of the responses have used 5-mini, but there's no clear pattern. must be a bug

I really wish there were an option in chatgpt to force it to ultrathink or something. Even the thinking version of the model doesn’t seem to expend many reasoning tokens, and then it gives a very stupid response. Grok, e.g., spends many more reasoning tokens but (nearly) always \

Of all the civil rights and liberties one has close to none, today. Barely any creative or intellectual freedom. The closest is being an anon in cyberspace. Physical space is profoundly scripted and owned. So ubiquitous as to be invisible, are the scripts. This will all change tho! Can’t wait. Liberty will see the light of day, in an unfathomably profound way. Civilian rights will explode in richness and we will look back and lament at how lowly the state of affairs was. The first brute is biology. The first enslaver is substrate.

A government is the “biggest gang,” with a local monopoly on violence. It’s good at preventing and stopping things. It’s bad at building and running things. Its main job is law and order, and a government which fails at that, is a failed government.

Abusing stimulants in hopes of productivity is a slippery slope. People expect stims to do all the heavy lifting, hoping to find an easy route to autopilot/flow state, but the required dosages to chase those highs (the "dozen of times" that we distinctly remember) keep ever increasing. We have to meet them midway with our own will, using them as training wheels to develop better muscle memory, convert boring/high effort actions (e.g. thinking hard) into habits. The end goal of stimulants should be to never have to use stimulants again.
