The OPT program shouldn’t exist. That’s the first problem. If a foreign student is so valuable to an employer, the employer can sponsor him for an immigrant visa. The problem is treating many nonimmigrant visas as de facto immigrant visas.
Alonso Gurmendi@Alonso_GD

You study in the US, get an OPT, fall in love and get married, find a job, maybe even have a kid And then to be a permanent resident you need to quit your job, move away from your family and somehow survive 6 months in a country you left 4 years ago Ridiculous policy

Primaries are where a small number of people can still move the needle. Register and vote in the party where you can have the biggest impact. In a deep red district that means showing up as a Republican to support a solid non-RINO candidate. In districts with no real Republican path it can mean registering Democrat long enough to primary out a bad incumbent, then switching back. The fact is the left has been screwing with the right for far too long using exactly these tactics. The difference is they were paying folks to do this. We have to do it grassroots. The machine pays very close attention to primaries. Most voters do not. That gap is your leverage.

So much vitriol... some people would prefer that Austin taxpayers - who are concerned with accountability - would simply keep their mouths closed, pay the bills, and allow the powers-that-be to continue corrupting our city. I have no plans to stop advocating for a better Austin.

The fact that it's May and we've already primaried out two Senate RINOs (pending Texas) and three House RINOs, coupled with the fact that 20% of Senate Republicans are retiring (most of whom are safe state RINOs)...the progress we are making this year is downright insane.

As I've said before, if the Cornyn camp was so concerned about the unique vulnerabilities Paxton would present in a general election, Cornyn would have stepped aside for any generically pro-MAGA conservative (or several of them) to run.   Instead Cornyn insisted on spending over $100 million on a race he could never win. It was never about electability, character, etc.  It was about liberal, anti-Trump Republicans refusing to give up a Senate seat to a pro-MAGA Republican. It was about liberal, anti-Trump Republicans - prevented from expressing their true feelings about Trump because of his popularity in the party - transferring their unhinged rage to Paxton.  The Cornyn campaign was NEVER about electability or character - it was just one long, expensive, psychotic primal scream by Bush/Rove Republicans against Trump, MAGA and the new America First GOP.

Let me try to explain for the people telling Texan’s who we should elect. Many of us didn’t want to give Cornyn a 3rd or 4th term but had no alternative. Paxton is not perfect, we know that, but he is the first option we have to get Cornyn out and he has been a good AG.

Immigrants 100 years ago: I love America. I want to assimilate. I won’t even let my kids speak our native language. I’ll work hard so my son can graduate HS. Opportunity! Immigrants now: erm you’re making it hard for me to get my PhD. Feeling unappreciated. Also I hate you.

If you live in LA and your neighborhood is covered in graffiti and the city is ignoring it, just spray paint “VOTE PRATT” over it, and Karen will have it painted over within 20 minutes.

The max one can pay into social security per year is $10,453.20. If you did that every year from age 18 until retirement, the max you’ll get from SS is $4,873 /month. If you put it into an S&P index fund instead, you would receive $32,583 per month. Social Security is a scam.

I hope people are paying attention to who is endorsing who in this race for Texas Attorney General. Chip’s endorsements are coming from the most conservative voices in the country. Maye’s endorsements are coming from the Austin swamp. None of that is by accident.
Mike Lee@BasedMikeLee

Chip Roy is a proven conservative, a highly skilled lawyer, and a perfect fit for the office of Texas Attorney General. Don’t take chances with Mayes Middleton, who possesses none of those qualities. Vote for Chip Roy on Tuesday.

No. The point of libraries is to collect and preserve books and make them accessible to the public. They should be serene, silent, and you should be able to find Great Expectations on a shelf. Too many librarians are loud, entitled libs who are more concerned with politics than anything to do with cultural preservation. This is why libraries which used to be sanctuaries for mothers and their children, for a studious high school student, have instead become the domain of homeless and drug addicts and if you want Dickens you have to wait two weeks to have it shipped from three states away.

People complaining that USCIS is requiring foreign nationals to apply for permanent residency in their home countries are the same people who think TPS must be permanent, Biden’s parole is real, every aspiring asylee has a legitimate claim, birthright citizenship is totally absolute, etc. Pay no mind to them.

Yea this actually really upsets me. The ONLY people paying to ride the bus today are working class people, living paycheck to paycheck, who make slightly more than the free pass people and are too moral to scam The stats Jen posted show there is really no reason financially to collect fares. The reason why they don’t make it free is probably just a pride thing cause it’s kind of admitting the bus system isn’t that healthy That $40-100 per month would go a LONG way for working class people. Let’s make it free!
Austin Videos@ATXVideos

@AnsweredSatyr @data_atx Yes. Homeless ride free, no questions asked. And bus drivers bully the working class, college students, etc., because our valid bus passes don't work. Often times they'll work Monday, but not Tuesday. Then they'll work Wednesday again. Then Thursday and Friday they won't work.

SECRETARY RUBIO on NATO: An argument I have always made is that these bases in the region provide us logistical options we wouldn't otherwise have. But when some of those bases are denied to you during a conflict, then you question whether that value is still there.
