My 95 year old grandmother pays $2000 in property taxes & another $3000 in school taxes every single year on a house that was built in 1850 that is falling apart. She was widowed in 1973 & as a single mother of 6 worked everyday of her life until she was in her mid 70s. She gets $10,000 a year from the federal government to live on, but once you subtract $5000 in taxes she is left with $5000 for the rest of the year to buy food, supplies & bills. Are people really this uneducated on this issue? Oh my god.
Deva Hazarika@devahaz

FYI seniors already get homestead exemptions, lowered assessments, tax credits, and deferral plans to help with property taxes based on their state and income level

@Zzombie3344556 @devahaz @EV_Trapper this is real dude maybe should help his grandma with her taxes. i talk to people who say they're getting medicaid but actually only get medicare. medicaid pays for basically everything medicare doesn't.

@devahaz @EV_Trapper I dont know for sure, but, it sounds like she told her family she did the STAR program and all that, but, never did. My grandma thats about the same age does that shit all the time. My mom started managing her stuff and she never did any of it.

@Daydream2984819 @notCornbutCob @kaceytron sure i agree i just broadly support people getting paid better than getting rid of things that make us happy. the idea that we need to be ashamed of having fun and enjoying life is crazy. the limit of 28 dollars for lunch is insane. we should just get paid more. easy fix.

@softspokensatan @notCornbutCob @kaceytron But every generation has spent money on things others considered stupid. Boomers used to go to the bar two to three times a week on average and spend money on cigarettes. Gen Z doesn't do either of that.

@notCornbutCob @kaceytron generally my principle is to make more money. so like if you spend 10 bucks a day on lunch that 50 bucks a week. if you negotiate 2 dollars more an hour that 80 bucks a week which is cheaper than bring lunch form home and jumping through hoops.

@kaceytron Weirdo doesn't see the value in saving money on lunch. There are many other ways to eat lunch and save money, you're looking at an extreme example. It's just so funny how the point is not to spend $20 on DoorDash lunch and you lefties turn it into this🤣🤣

@Wholetruth333 @NYCMayor i understand you're crying about lawlessness but companies not paying fines is lawlessness. fines are in part the law and he is literally enforcing the law right?

Amazon is worth $2 trillion. But it didn't deign to pay the millions of dollars it racked up in unpaid fines as its’ trucks illegally polluted our air and forced New Yorkers to breathe in their exhaust.
We collected every dollar they owe the people of this city — and will continue to hold them accountable. In New York, corporations are held to the same standard as everyone else.
No company — no matter how large or powerful — is above the law.

@Wholetruth333 @NYCMayor by "shaking down" you mean making big companies pay fines same as you and i? if i broke a rule and get a fine i have to pay, you too right?

@NYCMayor LOL. So I guess things are going great there with your leadership in New York. Instead of coming up with SANE fiscal policies that don't reward lawlessness, you're shaking down companies for vehicle emission infractions. Socialism at its best. Nice work.

Who’s making the lunches $28? Why can I cross the border and get the same meal for the fraction of the cost? The ones telling you that they are not stealing and to pull yourself up by the bootstraps are the same people orchestrating the collapse of civilization by endless greed and over consumption of limited resources.

@MichaelFKane @MaxLittle92 i mean pointing out that you can afford fewer burritos today than yesterday is a good point though. like even eating at home is more expensive. and asking for an extra 2 bucks an hours is cheaper than eating from home more. so pay workers more.

@MaxLittle92 Then don't complain about having to pay for someone else's service and the markup required for them to profitable. You're making a choice here.

@NOTfunnyparanR @kwp1039 not for 30 days it doesn't. it would reduce the drying out but not the moisture accumulation. again instead of trying to be clever why not just ask for a raise? 30 a day 150 a week full time = 2 bucks an hour for 160.

I guess we can keep pretending this is exclusively about sandwiches and not about the contrast in price and the example of Saran Wrap protecting bread from becoming crusty. As opposed to not throwing money away when you have credit card bills to spend 2 hours at a restaurant and $28

@RobMcLeod9 @NOTfunnyparanR @kwp1039 to be clear i agree 28 bucks a day is insane. but i spend about 5 bucks eating local food. sushi or salad or rice and hmong sausage. 25 bucks a week is nothing if i ask for a 50 cent raise i get 40 bucks a week. so instead of cutting back i should ask for a raise and cover it.

@RobMcLeod9 @NOTfunnyparanR @kwp1039 "When you meal prep you aren't working for your employer. " - depends on the job. you could be picking up a shift or in my case i could be working on my house which also brings value right? if we treat everything a money calculation you end up in a really bad zone.

@NOTfunnyparanR @kwp1039 "1hr to meal prep for a month" i never meal prepped 1 hour to make 30 sandwiches lol thats insane. also note that day 10 sandwich also almost certain rotten veggies. day 20 is full shits. day 30 you're probably dying of dysentery. but hey saved a couple bucks

@softspokensatan @kwp1039 It takes 1hr to meal prep for a month while you’re doing low value task compared to taking you an hour to take a lunch difference is in your favor.
