I got an email from the UCP today. I hope independence supporters who receive similar emails will all be showing up to these meetings. Independence supporters are the large majority of the grassroots in the UCP, but federalists have hijacked the agenda. This is unacceptable.

@globeandmail It was a citizen led petition. The government wasn't involved until now. And we tried to consult with First Nations leaders multiple times. 99% didn't show up. The corrupt chiefs don't want the financial gravy train to end.

Not sorry @WabKinew, but in Alberta we believe in democracy and when 700,000 Albertans ask for a referendum, you don't ignore that.

You don't, though. You are Toronto, and you will be held to account. You want to judge us, regulate us, abuse us, extract us, and only when secession is on the table do messages about how much you like us start to blossom. You elected Trudeau multiple times, and now this new guy that is equally bad (arguably worse). Frankly, you don't give a damn if Alberta were to be entirely engulfed in flames. But it's nice to say. Actions matter, and your actions don't match your words. Our people will have their moment, and emotional dribble doesn't put food on the table.

Manitoba can have a say when they are no longer recipients of our money. Their entire province is an equalization abuse... so it's easy to call the shots when you're taking money hand over fist and have no skin in the game. As for waiting "a couple years" did we not just wait 15? Or 120, for that matter? Funnily, if the East would have done the best thing for the country and elected Poilievre, I think the argument for, "Canadians do right by eachother, even when it's not what they want" might carry some water. It's not like it was hard, he was the most popular conservative leader ever- polls had him destroying everything... But that's not the result- they set us on fire and don't care. They cashed the cheque and threw Alberta aside. No more years will be spent waiting, we're having a vote. I hope Albertans realize this is the first time their vote will count.
