The #SCOTUS ruling in Louisiana v. Callais is a direct attack on voting rights — not just in Louisiana, but across our country. We will not give in. We will fight for fair representation, and we will win.

@stephgracela How about you write a piece on that crooked Susan Hudson?

🚨 In a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court strikes down Louisiana's new congressional map that added a second majority-black district, holding that it constitutes a racial gerrymander. The Court narrows its previous interpretation of the Voting Rights Act.

#BREAKING: Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson has been indicted on 30 counts, including alleged malfeasance and payroll fraud, just days before her term ends.
The indictment, brought by @LizMurrillforLA’s office, follows months of scrutiny into finances and operations at the jail.

This is a seismic decision for the Voting Rights Act and for the State of Louisiana. It vindicates the position we have taken from the outset, when we originally defended the first map adopted by the Legislature. We told the court then that we could not draw a new map without violating the Equal Protection Clause—that there was no way to draw a second majority-minority district without taking race into account in a way we believe violates the Constitution. The United States Supreme Court has now affirmed the judgment below overturning our second map as a racial gerrymander. This opinion confirms what we have said for the past five or six years: that the first map drawn by the Legislature was, in fact, constitutional. #lalege

With this shameful ruling, the Supreme Court is once again complicit in Republicans' assault on our democracy & Black political power.
This decision will disenfranchise millions of people, further weaken the Voting Rights Act, & embolden racial discrimination in our elections.

@allymutnick He doesn't have to be white but he is certainly too old to still be believing the lies of the Democrat party.

@nickshirleyy Bro you’re a 17 year old douche bag on twitter, no one gives a shit about you. Walz accomplished more in his life than you ever will. Viral videos don’t mean you’re a successful person, you’re still a fucking chud loser who works with his mommy.

Today’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais is a devastating blow to the promise of equal representation in our democracy. This decision will embolden efforts to dismantle majority-Black districts and fracture communities that have finally begun to see themselves reflected in their government. The fight is not over. I’ll continue to work in Congress and with our communities to restore the protections of the Voting Rights Act and defend the fundamental right to vote.
