@repdinatitus @POTUS How about no taxes on gambling, period. No writeoffs of any losses. It’s so simple and logical and literally how the rest of the world does it

You know what can't happen when Save Ohio Sports Act passes? Countless college students and young men can't lose their shirts chasing bets they statistically have little chance to win. Sure some will cross state lines, but the numbers speak for themselves that WAY more people bet when sports betting is legalized in the state. To suggest the same amount of betting, or any where near the same amount of betting will occur is a lie. And people like this know it.

Nobody is more out of touch with the gambling industry than politicians This will solve nothing People will just go offshore, prediction markets, or travel state lines It’s the same reason prohibitions in the 20s failed — people just won’t stop betting but they will do it now in unregulated markets

When @POTUS is here in Nevada talking taxes next week, let’s ask him to fix the 90% gaming loss deduction. 🎲

Do I think the Ohio mobile betting ban bill will pass? No. None of the 31 states with legal digital books have seriously considered it. But a press conference announcing this bill means at least some elected officials believe the political winds are shifting against sports betting

@sprusfwitter @MorganTrau @WEWS @WCPO @OhioCapJournal Our society overall does not possess the self-control to responsibly have gambling as a legal activity. Government trying to restrict how much people throw their money away - usually until they're broke - and people are pissed? Makes no sense.

NOW: Ohio Republican lawmakers are introducing two different bills to overhaul the sports gaming/gambling system: - No online bets - Ban on in-game, prop and parlay bets - Limits wagers to $100 - No ads during games - No using credit cards to bet @WEWS @WCPO @OhioCapJournal

The people of Ohio literally voted directly to legalize online gambling. This is essentially just a loophole to negate what the people voted for. Agree or disagree with sports betting, this state voted for it. Move to a state that didn’t vote for it if you have a problem.

No online sports bets in Ohio is insane. Is it 1986? The result is twofold: 1. people will cross state lines to place sports bets, meaning tax dollars go to states that border Ohio instead of Ohio, or 2. even more people will go to offshores, which also crushes revenue.

@JBook_37 I mean realistically this bill is going nowhere or it will be greatly changed before becoming law. DeWine himself tried to ban props last summer and got nowhere.

Dem US Rep. Raul Ruiz signed on as the 25th co-sponsor of the bill to restore the 100% gambling tax deduction against losses last week; legislation still has not moved in Congress

NEW: After two months of near silence in the effort to fix the limitation on gambling loss deductions, we heard from @RepHorsford and @RepMaxMiller who said they “look forward to an finding an appropriate time to address this issue” @RepJasonSmith also reiterated his commitment to a fix. Frustrating to just hear more words and not see action, but we will just have to continue waiting for them to find the right vehicle for this fix. This was part of yesterday’s session in the House Ways and Means Committee, where Rep. Horsford (D-NV) alongside Rep. Miller (R-OH) offered the fix as an amendment to a different bill under consideration before withdrawing it. The main action points come after the 4 minute mark of this clip, with Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) supporting the approach of waiting for a better legislative vehicle for this provision. TLDR: The wait continues, but this issue hasn’t been completely ignored. This is the first time I’ve heard the House Ways and Means Committee address this issue during committee time

Thank you @RepHorsford and @RepMaxMiller for highlighting that reducing gambling loss deductibility hurts consumers and drives players away from regulated, protected markets. The AGA remains committed to working with Congress and the administration to restore 100% deductibility. 👇 bit.ly/4c4OT3X

@fairplaygov @JohnWellendorf I agree, but on the flip side. The more people that gamble, the more people affected by this. The more people affected by this, the greater chance it gets fixed. So although yes I wish it hurt their bottom line, long term it might be a good thing everyones still gambling.

@JohnWellendorf @sprusfwitter Yeah. The data I have seen for casino handle, albeit nothing empirical, shows little or no change in the top line as a result of the 90% rule. So this got pushed down the priority list in favor of the anti-prediction market agenda.

IRS guy actually giggles at the end of this clip while saying that, starting this year, some gamblers will now owe tax on money they didn’t earn
