super thankful. this was really a great weekend full of incredible connections, conversations, and irl onboarding given the focus on the global South, we ofc spent a lot of time covering payments and stablecoins, but also showed how important dePin will be to these regions
Oasis Onchain 🏝️@oasisonchain

Massive shoutout to our major partners @BuildOnStellar, @sanddollar_BS, and @crypto_isle, and huge thanks to everyone who participated including @parabltech, @vifi_labs @KuraPayments and @poapxyz, who we used to onboard a cohort of local trade school students!

I got into crypto almost 10 years ago because I saw the potential for programmable money to reduce government bureaucracy, increase transparency, and distribute funds according to clear rules. Fast forward to today, and Bermuda is showing what that can look like in practice with their new @near_ai powered secure AI assistant for public servants, starting with a pension calculator prototype that helps process sensitive administrative workflows. Huge shoutout to @BermudaPremier for championing this!

"i just have really high standards" is incredible cope dating, starting a company, making art, whatever the domain you're afraid of what other people think of you that's ok, it's hard to escape social expectations but know the standards aren't yours, they're someone else's

this feels like a plausible outcome. it's also one of the worst possible outcomes of this summit. the coordinated centralization of frontier AI in both China and the US would be a catastrophe, imo.
Teortaxes▶️ (DeepSeek 推特🐋铁粉 2023 – ∞)@teortaxesTex

Would be funny if the US is willing to give the *Chinese state* compute for frontier AGI on the modest condition that China adopts US-style approach of only releasing weak-ass open models to deny capabilities to *the people*. One hell of a negotiation

I can't find a way to look at the posts “I liked” from the X mobile app. I remember having this feature, but I can't find it anymore. Is it just me, or does this happen to you?

i passed out exhausted with 30 minutes left to the auction grateful for the opportunity to perform my strange art form for an audience that appreciates it, and woke up to find a bidding war between two well-respected digital art collectors had more than quadrupled it thank you to @Jediwolf for both giving the piece a home within a collection of groundbreaking work throughout the history of AI art and for helping to propagate and contextualize the work, to all of the other bidders, and to everyone who appreciates my art. it is nice to sell work, of course, but most of all to feel understood; i create through this pseudonym to express a facet of myself that can only be transmitted this way, a facet that i have been judged for and told to tame my entire life, and i could not be more blessed to have somehow found an audience who understands and cherishes it we're so back!

We learned a lot in the last 24h - not just about art or AI but about ourselves - and I’m struggling to think of anything more valuable. Thank you again @SHL0MS "inferior image" is now part of my UnderTheGAN early AI art collection.

Let me let you in on a lil Not Secret (Everyone Knows This) but you give up A Lot trying to work in tech in a place outside of the main tech centers. I know of, not even personally know, like half a dozen developers in my city. There are two, maybe three, companies in my city that even hire developers. The average IQ of the people living in my state is below room temperature. The state is dying, and we can't keep technical or intelligent people here. I'm here because my family, many of them aging, are here and it's incredibly cheap to live here, but you give up having a physical IRL network of intelligent, capable and ambitious builders. I'm a 6-7h one-way drive away from the nearest city (Nashville) with a startup scene. There are benefits. My mortgage is < $1k/mo to live in a big house with a back yard big enough for 3 dogs and 9 chickens. My kids can go to private school (other side of the coin: they kinda have to because the public schools here suck) and do a lot of after school activities. We live very comfortably, especially after my wife got her doctorate. We're near family that we see every day. That rocks, no notes. That said, not being around driven, intelligent people IRL sucks. It means all of my motivation has to come from myself or the folks I've met online. There's close to 0 funding around here. There's no local network here either. No tech meetups, nobody knows wtf I'm talking about when I start talking about code, tech, AI, the cloud, etc. I used to tell people to stop moving to SF/NYC because it's overpriced and overrated. Now I just tell them to stop moving to SF (overpriced + overrated + brainworms) but to definitely not turn down the benefits of being around a bunch of super intelligent, driven and ambitious people in a bigger city. Before you say "just move then lol" it's incredibly tempting, but I've got two kids in school, a ton of family here and a hell of a lot of Life to move if I decide to do it. This is less a "woe is me" type of thing and more of a genuine warning to folks looking at moving away from the tech centers.

Several friends have recently started to raise angel rounds for interesting projects. Some consumer focused some cypherpunk focused. 1. If you're a partner or friend and raising an angel round, DM me and pitch it. I don't invest much but I have a very large, curious network. Just DM me bro. 2. If you angel and I don't already know it, DM me and I'll shill my pals in your DMs back. I only ref projects form founders I know personally for multiple years, so that's the base case and you can dyor on each project. 3. No reason for number 3 just 3-point lists seem better than 2-point lists.

Correct, industry mostly selects for the B+ to A- talent in a field, which is good for everybody left: the A talent is clearly identifiable and because of power law behavior that’s what you want, and the B talent gets a shot at a position they actually want with less competition.
david@sdav1986

the “quant workforce” doesn’t overlap too much with the scientists academia really wants to keep. In many fields, you figure out early in your phd if you’re truly talented or just well-trained and educated in the field. It’s often the latter who become disillusioned, facing tough odds, low pay, and instability who pivot. The former tend to stay and push ahead. So I don’t think this is a big issue.

Rather, «hilariously impressive». Audrey Tang is one of the greater living arguments for Taiwan being a country; I don't see someone like this holding a Mainland office. Look at this. A Minister, jumping on the hype to ship *vector steering* for a PRC-overaligned LLM. 🦥λ🏳️‍⚧️🇹🇼💪

@teortaxesTex You didn’t notice her political motivations behind the gift. She obviously is upset that DS4 labeled that island not as an independent country, which she attached in her message. It’s hilarious.

yes DeepSeek defaulted to writing this in Rust, no idea why, it struggles and seems to fail at making targeted edits but I like the way it's going.
