NEW: Georgia Election Board dumbfounded after finding out that 3,000 ballots were scanned twice in the 2020 election recount in Fulton County. The board also revealed that 380,761 ballot images from machine count were “not available.” Q: Does Fulton County know why there are not 380,761 ballot images from election day? A: As with the investigators we have not been apprised of this allegation. This is the first I'm hearing about it. General counsel for the secretary of state’s office Charlene McGowan confirmed that Fulton County broke the law in their recount. “Fulton County used improper procedures during the recount of the presidential contest in 2020.” Despite this, the board refused to approve further investigation.

And yesterday, the Business Journal produced essentially an advertorial describing developer and CITY SC plans to rename the Downtown West neighborhood in the City for purposes of disguising its crime reputation and link by name to “Downtown”. The tragic incident linked below is further proof that you can rename Forest Park Southeast “the Grove”, or Downtown West “the Commons”, but if you don’t address the underlying causes of crime, and the crimes themselves via proactive policing, renaming a neighborhood for PR purposes will not matter. It hasn’t mattered in the Grove. It hasn’t mattered for the region. How many times and how much money have the convention center people and chamber of commerce types rebranded St. Louis? It has made absolutely not a bit of difference in how others see us. That’s proven by our lackluster economic growth. Remember "St. Lou is all within reach" or "Perfectly Centered, Remarkably Connected"? (RCGA paid Fleischmann Hillard a couple of hundred thousand to come up with that one). The guys that get paid a lot of money always think PR can "change the narrative". Whether it's "rebranding", doing some cute promotions, or writing op-eds (like the aforementioned piece in the Business Journal last week), you cannot outrun the daily headlines or change perceptions when the reality doesn't change. We need to get full, honest buy-in on the problems, have a real plan to fix those problems, and hold those responsible (public and private) for their decisions and behavior. What we are dealing with is the opposite. The private sector acts out of self interest (creating islands like BPV or the casino in Downtown, opposing parking lot safety, etc.) while our elected officials continue to treat us like we're the enemy (homeless bill of rights, liquor law "reforms", etc.). Rebranding will never fix this.
