@charlesarthur I've been watching this unfold for a few days now, and it's genuinely something to behold. That said, I'm not even slightly surprised. This is X, after all — where everyone can suddenly become a lawyer, a doctor, and a geopolitics expert should they care to.

This guy is a fascinating example of someone who doesn't know what he doesn't know, is completely confident in his non-knowledge, but utterly refuses to listen when it's pointed out. Of course, he blocked me when I wrote this.

I agree, and I’m very disappointed. I’ve never reported a fellow solicitor before, but I felt I couldn’t ignore this. I’m fairly confident there was a large number of reports about this individual, and the SRA clearly considered it serious enough to open an investigation. However, the process is moving at a glacial pace. If the SRA doesn’t take meaningful action soon, I will escalate the matter further. I don’t think I’ll have any difficulty obtaining expert evidence that the statements amount to antisemitism.

If I, in public, to a crowd of people had taken a loud hailer and urged the crowd to shit on the head of a trans woman, I would have expected to be arrested at the very least. I could not have argued if my regulator had imposed some pretty severe consequence. Because it is disgraceful, unacceptable behaviour. And yet Mr Weddell saw not one consequence - until now when it became part of the unravelling of his harassment complaint. By deleting his X account and managing to be remarkably restrained on other forms of social media, Mr Weddell crafts a narrative of victim hood. If my house or my head gets any attention from the hammer wielding Bash Back thugs, I think I can predict with depressing accuracy who will cheer it on.

have to say the BSB did a tremendous job in this case. By contrast, I reported a solicitor to the SRA almost a year ago for repeated antisemitic posts on X. The posts are numerous, sustained, and in my view clearly bring the profession into disrepute while breaching the Code of Conduct. The SRA only opened an investigation in early July 2025. Their latest update? “The evidence is still being reviewed.” The individual continues posting and still holds the title of Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales.

Another KC and a junior barrister worked with the GLP on this complaint. They remain anonymous but I hope they are digesting its rejection carefully. This complaint, arising quite outside a barrister’s actual work, took up regulatory resources that our clients ultimately pay for

I’m by no means an uncritical defender of everything Sarah Phillimore says, but I am very glad the BSB has at last firmly rejected this Good Law Project-backed complaint made by an activist serial complainant against her, and has articulated its detailed reasons for doing so.
