Still on the subject of Maori language... I have always tried to be respectful of the language, and tried to use the correct Maori pronunciation of words. Going back, we pronounced "Wh" as "W", as in Whakatane - Wakatane. Over a few decades, this changed to "Wh", pronounced as "F". So read the following plcenames with the "F" sound: Whakamaru, Whakatāne, Whakapapa, Whakapara Whakatu Now, I swear with the best of them, but when I want to. Not when I have to in order to adhere to a language. Imagine a conservative English or American middle-aged femal tourist being told they should say Fukatane. When a word in a language becomes swearing in another, it should not be compulsory. #nzpol
