Why Chelsea recalled Aaron Anselmino from his Dortmund loan: Chelsea need a CB this January. Ideally we want Jeremy Jacquet but that could prove difficult in January with Rennes preferring a summer sale. In that case, Mamadou Sarr – who we are planning to integrate into the squad in the summer anyway is viewed as the ideal candidate having already played under Liam Rosenior for 1.5 seasons. However, we can't take him from Strasbourg unless they get an adequate replacement. A player like that can't be signed for Strasbourg in January, therefore recalling Anselmino and loaning him there is a great solution for everyone. This works out for Chelsea – who get Sarr. Strasbourg – who get Anselmino and Anselmino himself – who gets a fantastic loan for his development. If Anselmino's goal is to have a future at Chelsea – which you would imagine it is considering the long contract he willingly signed, it shouldn't matter him to where Chelsea want him to play. Strasbourg is objectively a great loan for him and a closer step to a Chelsea future than at Dortmund where he's not under BlueCo's control (with regards to fitness etc). However, Anselmino is being angry right now for the same reason he was crying when leaving Dortmund; His head has clearly already been at least halfway turned by Dortmund's very obvious tapping up of the player. This justifies Chelsea's decision to pull him even more and he quite frankly doesn't get a say in that. The fightback we're now seeing from Anselmino, IF the Fabrice Hawkins report is to be believed, is a horrible move by him and his advisors – rejecting a move that is brilliant for his development in favor of either getting a loan move which would almost certainly be worse or staying here and get no game time. Let's wait for more clarifications on this from others before being TOO harsh on him and his team but if true...really bad from them.
