@BobbySkinner_ Ravens sign about the same number of UDFAs as everyone else (15–18 per year vs. a league average of ~15). The difference is conversion — they’ve had a UDFA make the Week 1 roster in 19 of 20 years, and their hit list (Tucker, Priest Holmes, Bart Scott, Gus Edwards, Patrick Ricard, Keaton Mitchell, Mekari) is arguably the best UDFA alumni group in the league. It’s not volume, it’s scouting infrastructure and development culture under Harbaugh/DeCosta. For the Giants, that’s the gap worth studying — not how many they sign, but how they identify and develop the right ones.

@PESSIMETSdotCom @Anthony_Rivardo I’ll tell you why: because Harbaugh and co signed Zvada with 2 kickers also on the roster. With Loop, he was the only rostered kicker (not counting Tucker). They’re going into this preparing for a position battle.

@Anthony_Rivardo I can’t trust any rookie kicker after the debacle that happened to Harbaugh last season. Surprised Harbaugh would want to go down that path again

Looked into this. It checks out. The Giants gave Dixon and Schernecke $282,500 guaranteed each. A rookie practice squad salary in 2026 is $13,750/week x 18 weeks = $247,500. So those guarantees basically cover a full PS season plus the signing bonus. Not an accident. For comparison, the Giants’ richest UDFA guarantee last year under Daboll was Jake Kubas at $270K, and Duggan noted at the time it was unusually high. Most of the 2024 class got way less. In 2023 the top guarantee was $175K. Now they’re giving $282K to multiple guys instead of just one priority target. Harbaugh’s Ravens did the same thing for years. Baltimore used salary guarantees to win UDFA bidding wars because the guarantees offset against practice squad earnings anyway. The team’s real cash outlay barely changes. It’s a recruiting tool. Different front office philosophy showing up in the contract structure already.

@BobbySkinner_ Thought it was interesting they gave out a few guarantees to UDFAs that were equal to a full season on the practice squad. Don't recall them structuring deals that way before

The Giants gave Michigan kicker Dominic Zvada $145K guaranteed, per source. They now have three kickers on the roster, with Zvada joining Jason Sanders and Ben Sauls. That’s a lot of kickers…

@beingHfarooq @DDuggan21 It is, teams just aren’t technically allowed to arrange signings for after the date to avoid comp pick formula.

Joe Schoen and John Harbaugh both made references through the draft that they're not done adding to the defensive line. I asked where things stand with DJ Reader. Schoen answered broadly that they've been in contact with "several agents of veteran defensive tackles." He said they'll see what happens next week. They may have a few more visits.

John Harbaugh says that Malachi Fields is consistently running over 21 MPH in fields, per the GPS data, which is comparable to a 4.4 40-yard dash. Fields ran a 4.61 at the NFL Combine. Not a concern for the #Giants. They believe his play speed is much faster.
