In addition to office docs, it can fill out PDF forms and do LateX and matplotlib. See what else you can find.

I made the mistake of doing business with @Adobe and now they are expecting me to pay $250 to cancel my stock photo account. I mistakenly thought this had gotten better.

@GergelyOrosz I started a company in 2016. First three engineers were from Google. They tried GCP for three weeks. All I heard was how much worse it was than internal Google systems. We switched to AWS and never looked back.

Flipping things around: 1. Amazon engineer is the technical cofounder at a startup: almost certain to use AWS (they have had years of experience with this) 2. Google engineer is the technical cofounder at a startup: coin flip to what cloud they'll use (prob not used any!)

How interesting: An Amazon engineer joining a startup using AWS: hits the ground running (has been using AWS throughout their time at Amazon) A Google engineer joining a startup using GCP: most likely needs to learn how GCP works (most of Google runs infra that is not GCP)

@GergelyOrosz Except Linux goes the other way with death-by-excessive-configurability and often not great defaults. I want a workstation not a hobby.

Sad, but we are getting to the point that if you want an OS that behaves the way *you* want it: It is Linux. Both Apple and Microsoft are starting to make decisions without considering what customers want, or giving option to opt out (e.g. Windows Start menu ads.) Sad.

Who ever decided at Apple that it's a good idea to ship "Reactions" as an OS-level feature on Mac, with no way to turn it off, on when you use e.g. external cameras as well. It crashes some apps, fantastic (and no way to turn off across the system, only per-app, for some apps)

@ed_ruthazer @hubermanlab He just can't help himself. The rush of wildly extrapolating tidbits of knowledge and creating convincing sounding arguments out of sheer bullshit and whimsy creates a dopamine rush unlike anything, even compared to having 6 consecutive partners.

@jpmarindiaz @natfriedman Tableau and a few other incumbents have this (some better than others), and users mostly don’t care. There are also several startups doing this, and people are definitely not beating a path to their door.

What AI product – that can be built today but for some strange reason doesn't exist yet – would you pay for right now? Preference for B2B answers!

@ParkerDefi @nikitabier Reddit is a thriving thing. But it also has a lot of pseudonymity and throw away identities. I’ve been a heavy Reddit user for over a decade, but there are fewer than a dozen usernames I recognize and think of as people.

@nikitabier I would say that telegram, discord and Reddit are all examples of thriving social communities.

“Community” is a fake term created by rookie social app founders. The vast majority of the examples they cite are just groups of people shilling things—or with other financial motivations (crypto, real estate, tech). If you were to count all the people in real communities globally, you would find fewer than 20 million daily active commenters. The average person stares at their phone in a catatonic state for 8 hours per day, has zero unique interests, and dies.

I’m happy to announce our $13.8M Series A led by @felicis, with participation from @khoslaventures, @ycombinator, @flybridge, @Stage2Capital, @dropalltables, B37 Ventures, and an incredible group of investors and advisors. Metaplane preserves trust in data by ensuring data teams are the first to know about data issues. In 2024, “is this number accurate?” shouldn’t be a question anyone asks. By connecting to a company’s entire data infrastructure, Metaplane intelligently understands when the most important data is facing quality issues and alerts the right people before impact to the business. Last year, we shared our plans to go from detection to prevention, and from monitoring data quality to data usage and spend. We built those and more through 50+ product launches. And in parallel, we grew our revenue by 6x and customer base by 3x, ranging from the fastest-growing companies like Ramp and Klaviyo, to large enterprises like Bose and Sotheby’s. With today’s additional funding, we are pressing our technical advantage as the most powerful data observability platform. More on this in the link below. Thank you to our customers, investors, and friends, without whom this would not be possible: @jsoltero, @tecoker, @jonchu, @nikitabase, @KanuGulati, @dharmesh, @chazard, @bussgang, @itsthomson, @aaron_epstein, @rauchg, @maccaw, @DSJayatillake

@su_tomasz @KaV_2599 @fedupoffed @O42nl One engineer with 15+ years experience who had struggled to understand our (admittedly complex) codebase had a bit of an identity crisis after working with the intern and quit to go back to building boring e-commerce software.

@tibbetts @KaV_2599 @fedupoffed @O42nl Yep, but in fact that "kid" getting lot more money for 3mo internship than myself for a year, really impressive! I'm working for a Nasdaq listed company, 20y of professional experience, working remotely tho based in Poland :) got nothing to complain tho either

@su_tomasz @KaV_2599 @fedupoffed @O42nl I paid comparably for an intern I knew I wanted when I had to match a Jane Street offer. MIT undergrad, building large scale complex software since middle school. Helped me resolve some core problems that had stymied senior engineers. Unfortunately left for a Stanford PhD.

@KaV_2599 @fedupoffed @O42nl Can an intern have God like programming/ LLVMs / algorithms practical understanding? Maybe the syntax and theory behind it yes, but to really master this practically, he would have to be bullilding large scale, complex software systems since elementary school.

NEW: America is a rich country. Britain is a poor country with one wealthy region. People love to compare the UK to Mississippi, but it’s far more informative to look at UK subnationally, too. London ranks fairly well, the rest of the country does not 👉 ft.com/content/e5c741…
