@bee_fumo @grhmc I think it's cool. The person who wrote it hangs out on hobby OS development Discord and seems like a nice fellow, but I hate that we now have some things that only work in GRUB and others that only work in Limine; makes multiboot harder.

@vcprocles @nsg650 At some point I need to build a new dedicated hobby-OS boot machine with newer hardware, but if hasn't happened yet, and right now I'm instead starting to multiboot a wider range of mature systems like Haiku directly on my aging daily driver.

@vcprocles @nsg650 I was going to work around this by putting GRUB on one HDD and Limine on another, but then I realized I couldn't boot most newer hobby OSs on my primary multiboot bo anyway because the osdev community had moved to requiring better hardware clocks not found in early AMD64.

@nsg650 @vcprocles Haiku supports EFI, but if they don't have an accelerated video driver for your card then booting EFI forces you into a single framebuffer resolution thoughtlessly set by firmware, whereas with BIOS boot they support selecting different VESA modes.

@nsg650 There's nothing else that supports loading as many different types of kernels from as many different types of filesystems as GRUB. I've tried to use other bootloaders for variety any found myself quickly exceeding what they support and running back to GRUB.

@metux_its I would just like to interject for a moment. What you call Linux is in fact MAGA/Linux, or as I have recently taken to calling it, MAGA plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning MAGA system

Here we see two high profile Open Source people (Red Hat & GNOME) discussing the problem with what they call “MAGA/Linux”. Discussions like this have been increasing among Open Source organizations and projects lately. They are very upset that “MAGA/Linux” is “gaining traction”. What, exactly, is “MAGA/Linux”? The definition seems vague, but you’ll see words like “XLibre”, “Lunduke”, & “OpenMandriva” regularly associated.

There'll be plenty of ways to avoid Linux pestering you for your date of birth that don't require shunning every single systemd distro, but Devuan is good enough that I use it for reasons completely unrelated to systemd.

Update on the Colorado Age Attestation bill: Everyone that participated in the meeting last week submitted proposed changes to the bill. They included good ideas to improve consumer protection and privacy and exempting open source software. Sen. Ball responded this morning that they'll now draft potential amendments. I think we're making good progress. I'm off for a ski weekend with the kids. Have a great weekend everyone!
