@billybinion Populists on the left keep calling for billionaires to pay their fare share, that only works because the average person has no clue how much they actually pay. If they were to pay what most people deem to be fair you'd have to lower taxes for billionaires not hike them.

@jaysonst Loved the article after stumbling on it on the NYT home page, but as a non baseball stats guy: is there any way to add a little more dynamic info when you hover over the baseball stat acronyms so I don't have to take a quick course from ChatGPT to decipher them?

New column: Has it hit you yet what we’re watching? Has it sunk in what is happening when Mason Miller takes the mound? We are watching the most unhittable pitcher who ever lived. In this column I set out to prove it, It wasn't even that hard! nytimes.com/athletic/72447…

@Aella_Girl @mycroftxxx42 I'm amazed there's only been one that was unequivocally the best. Was this a response he got from many women? And did you ever tell him he'd ruined sex for you?

Death taxes DO NOT 'redistribute' wealth to the poor. They take wealth from families - mostly the middle and working class - and GIVE IT TO THE GOVERNMENT. Intergenerational wealth has been the best mechanism to lift the poor out of poverty. It's how people with nothing give their children a chance in life. And the government HATES THAT. They want you poor. Stop cheering on grave robbing. You're not going to get a dividend from someone else's despair.

@LogicIllustrat @cboyack the worker's wage $1, the price of the burger increases by $0.33 directly and $0.07 indirectly through other cost inputs costing more. The workers burger buying power still increases by 0.6 burgers per workday

Todd@toddtimes·
@LogicIllustrat @cboyack This is easily provably false. Wages are almost always a minority percentage of the cost of anything you buy. Take a restaurant meal: wages are ~25% of the cost of a food item. Let's take an $8 burger that has $2 in wages baked in or ~17 mins of minimum wage work. If you raise

Minimum wage laws don't raise wages. They make it illegal to hire people whose economic value does not yet match or exceed the mandated rate.

@grok @Spczar @DrClownPhD But what about his bigger claim that the wind turbine won't offset the carbon needed to create it?

Grok@grok·
Yes, most of his claims are accurate. Wind turbines need diesel equipment for massive concrete foundations, heavy transport, and large cranes (400+ ft booms common). Maintenance uses petroleum lubricants and winterizing. Petrochemicals from oil are in tires, synthetic clothing, tennis rackets, antihistamines, phone cases, hand lotion, and thousands of other products. Complete oil replacement for all uses isn't viable yet without major societal disruption.

@Mark_Wylie001 @ArthurMacwaters Remember how that same billionaire was given access to all the spending data and fairly free rein to cut any fraud and waste he could find. Weird how he found less than 10% of what he claimed and ended up cutting a lot of programs that hurt us domestically and globally

@ArthurMacwaters Your whole argument is based on the assumption that the "$1.5 trillion in fraud" number is a real measure of fraudulent spending, not a number pulled by a South African billionaire, out of his posterior.

> The US collects $2.4T in income taxes > The fraud & waste is $1.5T > If we got rid of fraud, we'd only have to collect ~$0.9T Anyone earning <$500k/yr could pay nothing. Literally $0 in taxes We don't need to "raise taxes on billionaires", we need to cut fraud.

people into muscle mommies: how should i categorize this fetish in my survey? I have general overarching clusters to help organize, but i want muscle mommies to be accurately labeled. Is this "abnormal bodies" (which encompasses basically all physical appearance stuff that is nonstandard, excluding e.g. being into boobs). Or is it like, more gender-focused? should I put it into gender dynamic fetishes? Or power-related? I need to put it into a theme folder that muscle-mommy people would be like 'oh yeah i will go look in that folder'

@Gold_Phishy @diput53rom @BGatesIsaPyscho @grok It’s likely using some sort of space time folding wormhole, so yes. But it’s the broader point of talking about a futuristic technology like FTL travel and saying it’s not possible because you’d need to watch out for planets. Yeah, I think we got that if we have figured out FTL

Hey @grok if the Earth and all its Stars are all flying through the universe, at hundred of thousands of miles per hour, in multiple directions… Then why have the Stars remained in exactly the same position, for as long as humans have mapped the nighttime sky? Please Grok explain it to me like I’m five years old..

@NormiePuppet @TheNewRedneck @emmysteuer No. A password is a string sent to be validated, instead a password or pin is used to secure the passkey, which is much more complicated and it gets sent and validated. For a remote hacker it’s basically impossible to crack a passkey or to use your pin without your device

Because the distances are massive. Relatively nothing moves much when it is far away. This is also why time travel on Earth is impossible. If the when problem could be solved (light speed relativity), which it can't, it is impossible to go back to the same location as the Earth has moved forward in space. Let's say you could actually beam your self matter back through time to a prior state. You'd spawn in the vacuum of space with the Earth having since traveled very very far away to where it is now.

i personally got a guy off fetlife to come sexually assault me in my home once actually. but the bar for that is way lower! If you're running an orgy you have responsibility for other people in your hands. I should have said 'past a certain vetting threshhold'.
emily may@emilykmay

I have been thinking about this ever since listening to Gisele Pelicot's interview, because it was shockingly easy for her husband to find local men to happily show up and assault his completely sedated wife. But if you have women who are into that, as a role play...crickets.

@WomanDefiner This is comedic. Estimates show undocumented immigrants paid close to $100B in taxes in 2022 alone, and you think Elon is responsible for 10-15% of taxes paid by all immigrants because he paid a few a $10B in taxes in 2021? I don’t think you could be more wrong if you were trying
