Women with breast cancer who use alternative medicine instead of conventional therapy have survival rates no better than getting NO treatment at all. But women who did BOTH also did worse. A thread on a sobering new study. 🧵 1/11

Remember children, the navies and air forces were only support on D-Day. Be sure to tell that to veterans when you see them. They should be informed.
JG@SenorGrumpy

@SeaSpitfires @YorkshireJW Probably because the infantrymen did the actual invading. Everyone else was support.

So - do you have to be white to be British? We have asked in the past.... answer is NO. Also clear that overt racists are a very small part of British society

#DDay80: The role of the Royal Engineers (RE) on D-Day & in the #Normandy campaign is another aspect of the #WW2 British & Commonwealth story that deserves more focus. On most beaches the RE were among the first to land, clearing the beaches making the assault possible. 1/14

@almurray @SeaSpitfires One of the most extraordinary things that’s happened to me on here was when the author replied to my tweet and shared my grandad’s (who I never met) naval log account of landing on Sword Beach….not to mention a pic of his actual landing craft. Incredible. My mum was made up.
Humphrey Plugg@HumphreyPlugg4

@ScanlanWithAnA Grandparents during wartime. Grandad -amongst other things- led a landing craft onto Sword Beach at D-Day. Gran travelled down from Inverness to London to join the Wrens He was multi-lingual- had a post-war Naval career specialising in teaching languages of Europe Bite me also

@SeaSpitfires Hi Stephen, out of curiosity, where / when were 246 Field Company RE? I need to re-read Bamps account but I thought he said they were on Sword in the first (ish) bit? I know he slept in benouville churchyard with a half track after his initial vehicle was drowned on the landing

@SeaSpitfires Hope you’re ok Stephen, I remain incredibly grateful for you taking the time to reply about my grandfather and 246 RE a few months ago, it was very kind. Really respect what you’re doing and looking forward to the book. Take care and Merry Christmas

Amongst the other hellish social media platforms, I've always found Twitter to have a nice collection of people to talk to. So in the absence of everyone I know in person right now (they're all away) this is probably the best place for me to confess that I'm not really doing ok.

From here the narrative can go one of two ways. A quiet and methodical search of the farm, or GUNS & GRENADES! I think I'll go for the latter.

Whole body CT scans after trauma detail the full injury load & improve coordination of on-going management. Secondarily, they inform underlying health status (coronaries, CKD, sarcopenia) and are an unscheduled health screen. MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW UP INCIDENTAL FINDINGS
