@Pirat_Nation Valve has never removed bought games from someones library. Valve helped create proton making gaming in Linux possible for thousands of games that are Windows only. Valve created not just a launcher but a whole platform for gaming that rivals a console. They are not the same

@JLGuerraInfante @yimmchu SotO, JW, and VoE were basically announced at the same time. Anet wanted us to know the game had longevity so they told us they had 3 xpacs planned. Now we are 3/4 through VoE and have had zero confirmation of a new xpac. That likely means the format is changing.

@domibuilds @SkyWalkProd EoD was an excellent expansion. It gave us the best map meta and the best strike missions in the game. JW is indeed to worst xpac, but I still enjoyed my time and I replay the convergences regularly.

@santieur52 @yyhh6tgg63536 @HardwareUnboxed MSAA is the most VRAM intensive of all the AA options. I would not describe it as “barely” using VRAM. Like it or not resolution scaling has been going on in consoles and PC since before DLSS. It was going to happen no matter what. Glad we have options, just wish they were open

@yyhh6tgg63536 @HardwareUnboxed if 1080p upscaled to 4k is compared to 4k, like marketing wants you, of course is less VRAM, dlss magic; but normal AA like MSAA barely uses vram, it uses other resources, so yeah, 1080p without upscalers use less vram than with them

We’re not interested in the Threat Interactive drama, he can do his thing and we will continue to do ours, which means testing GPU features like DLSS, FSR and XeSS. If he wants to spend his time and energy pushing for better quality games we’re here for it. But needlessly attacking others because he disagrees on which features should be tested is painfully obnoxious. In a way it reminds me of the VRAM issue and how the community viewed our coverage versus Digital Foundry. We were pushing for better consumer products with more VRAM, they were pushing developers to optimize the games, we were not at odds with one another, they were pushing for better software and we were pushing for better hardware. Whether you believe upscaling technology should exist or not is irrelevant, your opinion is not the only one. Some people believe mainstream 8GB GPUs are fine and should exist, we don’t agree, but you’re more than welcome to make that content and share that opinion, and some have. If Threat Interactive was taking the fight to AMD and Nvidia, we’d really have no issue with that, but attacking others in the space because you don’t like that they test a feature doesn’t achieve anything, it’s purely drama. Anyway, that's involved as we’re getting in it, he can continue to proceed however he likes, just know we’re out.

Since my whole timeline is full of people swooning about @dark1x claim that getting from one point of Crimson Desert’s map to another took a whopping 4 hours, let me share what’s going through my mind: I’ve been doing Level Design for 17 years now - I designed most of the levels / world for the Ori games and I’m still supervising LD on Wicked, so I think I can share some valuable insight. I always find it a bit worrying when everyone gets excited about ‘oh my god, they crafted an insanely huge world!’. In fact, I have basically the exact opposite reaction, which is more like: ‘Oh no, they started with a huge terrain, I hope they had an army of level designers to actually create a meaningful world instead of just a procedurally crafted, empty husk.’ I know how difficult it is to design good levels and how much time it takes us to build ours - so just hearing that, I already know that there’s likely not going to be a lot of actual good level design in Crimson Desert. And I actually don’t want to sound too disparaging or ruin anyone’s fun because Crimson Desert certainly looks insane and I can’t wait to play it myself either, but I also know how important and how underrated good level and world design is for a title and what the effect is if you have to OK huge, but empty worlds. I’d say at this point even some of the best studios in the world weren’t able to crack that nut. Even Nintendo struggled for a long time with the world size of Breath of the Wild and ultimately they had to put hundreds of devs on it to fill it up with content, but even their content then mostly consisted of ‘oh, here’s another Korok Seed!’ and other such lukewarm experiences. Since procedural level generation produces pretty crappy results and since we don’t have AI yet that can actually create well designed levels, the only way out of feeling like being in an empty world is to make every inch interactive. Minecraft did that and it was quite genius - but I doubt that’s what CD is going for. I understand the allure of ‘they created an entire universe!’, but be careful what you wish for: In Gaming Worlds, huge usually also means extremely shallow.
