@karthikRanga92 in sweden, especially northern sweden, i got to know that people work 6 am - 2 pm in winters to get a chance to walk their dogs/go for a run or an outing in the afternoon as the sun sets by 3 or max 4!

It's empty at 4:30PM because they start work at 7AM. I used to work from 8-5 while my coworkers did 7-4. Now we do 10-7. 8 hours is the same. Depends on the time period. You guys come by 10am and expect to leave by 4:30? Seriously?

A major Indian OEM donated engines to a university lab. No specs, no joint team, no embedded engineer for integration. Just hardware tossed over to the lab. That's industry-academia "collaboration" in India. Here's why it is that way. 🧵

Love, love the fact that 'The Family Man' on prime video has incorporated such details beautifully, like the "I'm chuffed" sentence by Meera (chuffed is a British adjective; Meera is a UK resident), and more such things like the local Nagaland culture, songs in the background, and the Tamilian history associated with Burma. 🫰

@Ishwarguru85 @cricaddict2004 @Tejasvi_Surya RRTS (intercity commute) connects two economic centers. Metro is to connect areas within an economic center (bengaluru/tumkur). RRTS provides for rapid commute between two centers. Metro will spread the crowd along the entire route, and make it unviable for all. It's that simple.

People opposing the Tumakuru Metro, like @Tejasvi_Surya, are the dumbest. To reduce Bengaluru’s load, people and businesses must move outside the city. Strong connectivity is essential for that, and nothing provides more reliable connectivity than a metro line. The Tumakuru Metro will make a major difference by encouraging people and companies to shift to Bengaluru’s outskirts. Overall, it will become one of the most dependable metro routes. Requesting @DKShivakumar sir to implement it as soon as possible

Today @AltCarbonIndia launches @AlterMagIndia-- a monthly publication bringing to the world new literary writing on science, technology, & progress from South Asia. A quarter of humanity live in the Indian subcontinent, undergoing one of the fastest economic & technological transitions in history. While the subcontinent faces its own existential crisis from the social alleviation of poverty to managing the deluge of climate change, it’s also pioneering the codes underlying new payments infrastructures and the rockets enabling us to become a multi planetary species. The future is happening here. It calls for a platform for India’s scientific and literary communities to birth, debate, and publish new ideas. Alter Magazine is dedicated to providing ink, paper, & screen pixels to these intellectual entrepreneurs imagining alternative futures. Every month, we will publish one long-form, deeply researched, and beautifully designed piece. Each story will shift how readers see our vast and diverse subcontinent, bringing to you contemporary geniuses, cutting-edge ideas, and pathbreaking discoveries. This is a living journal documenting the dreams and dilemmas shaping our subcontinent’s aspirations for progress, the attempt to blend together tradition & technology to undertake development, capturing the region’s herculean effort to undertake advancement not just for itself, but to help write the next chapter of long-term planetary evolution. We believe that a world of abundance is possible. It requires audacious thoughts & imaginative action— led by scientists, reasoned by philosophers, imagined by artists, implemented by technologists, debated by citizens and realised for everyone. Alter Magazine will document the stories & pursuits of all those working towards this shared vision — answering the question posed by one of India’s founding fathers at the stroke of the midnight hour: “The future beckons to us. Whither do we go and what shall be our endeavour?” Watch out for Issue #1: The Secret History of Indian Science Fiction. altermag.com

India’s mobility transformation is not about incremental efficiency. It is about industrial leadership. The EV value chain alone could create 50 million jobs by 2030 - spanning manufacturing, R&D, software, digital services, and repair. With bold policies, India can dominate the global EV market, not just participate in it.   The revised CAFÉ draft, in its current form, is contrary to the 7C vision highlighted by PM @narendramodi . It risks pushing India backward at a time when the world is racing ahead. If India truly wants to lead and not lag, @beeindiadigital ( Bureau of Energy Efficiency) must think bigger, act bolder, and move decisively. This is our defining moment - incrementalism and half -measures will only hold us back. My Opinion piece in today’s HT.

@Chellaney the "profit before pride" also led to the team players having to do the charade of dedicating win to the victims and not shaking hands/or press conference which is unsportsmanship and now Pakistan has made a fool of us by taking stand to boycott the cup because of this! Shame!

Profit before pride led Modi’s government to compel India’s cricket team to face Pakistan in the Indian-financed Asia Cup, even though India could have afforded to forfeit two points by skipping the match. The team, however, gave the “proper reply” — dedicating its win to India’s armed forces and the victims of a terrorist massacre, while refusing to shake hands with Pakistani players. Profit before pride also drove Modi’s government, soon after the May 7–10 war with Pakistan, to resume the “Beating Retreat” ceremonies at Attari and two other border crossings — decadent, colonial-era rituals that underscore India’s hyphenation with Pakistan and whose revival lacked the backing of the service chiefs.

@shobhitic novice argument. Even IEA has concluded that with even current state of power mix, EVs are still MUCH better over the lifetime of a vehicle. Apart from the huge benefits to local urban air pollution+ it is always much easier to contain point sources of pollution, like power plant

i understand people want clean air, but coal is still the most dominant form of electricity. you're just shifting your pollution from one place to another. i love electric vehicles too, but buy buying a new vehicle isn't solving the planet's problems if your old vehicle is fine

@OnlyNakedTruth to make ACs viable indoors. With the current materials used in construction and lack of any shades outdoors will make everyone use bigger and bigger ACs for the same room! So def a simultaneous solution has to be found for this but this new regulation on ACs makes complete sense.

@OnlyNakedTruth absolutely! Anyone who has simple understanding of how refrigeration works knows that maintaining <20°C indoors when >40°C outside is not possible for ACs. They just keep consuming power. Sure there are other urgent fixed needed to our building codes and shading/greenery outdoors

Why are people offended by this? Who are these people who need to set thermostat to below 20 degree in Indian summers? Or people don’t understand how a thermostat functions? if your outside temperature is 40 degrees it is unlikely that your AC will anyways be able to cool it down to 18 degrees anyway. GST on AC is a different issue and it needs to be reduced.
ANI@ANI

#WATCH | Delhi: Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar says, "Regarding air conditioning standards, a new provision is being implemented soon. The temperature standardization for ACs will be set between 20°C to 28°C, meaning we won't be able to cool below 20°C or warm above 28°C. This is a first-of-its-kind experiment, aiming to standardize temperature settings."

BREAKING: India’s Govt Decides Your AC Can’t Be Too Cool for you! In a move straight out of a dystopian thermostat thriller, Modi ji's Govt has declared war on your chill vibes, mandating all new ACs be locked between 20°C-28°C. Because nothing screams "energy efficiency" like sweating in your own home during a 50°C heatwave! #ACTemperature While our planet gasps for air, the govt’s like, “Let’s save power by making your car, office, AND bedroom feel like a sauna!” Brilliant. My late grandma’s shawl is ready to make a comeback as I “adapt” to 28°C “comfort.” This isn’t just about bills or emissions—it’s about control. First, they tax ACs at 28% GST, now they dictate how cool you can feel? Next, they’ll mandate how many ice cubes you get per glass! Rise, fellow heatstroke warriors! Let’s crank up the sarcasm to 16°C & demand our right to freeze in peace! #IndiaSweats #GovtKnowsBest

Why is Red Dye 3 is banned in US and UK, but allowed in India!  Why did these US and UK ban it though? Because it's been linked to hyperactivity in children, thyroid issues, and even cancer in animal studies.  In Indian products, Red Dye 3 often hides behind names like “INS 127,” “E127,” or “Erythrosine” on the nutrition label. Some products like Hershey’s Strawberry Milkshake don’t use red dye 3 in the US, UK but use it in India.  If you believe FSSAI should re-evaluate the use of Red Dye 3, share this. Let's raise our voices. Let's push for labels that protect, not confuse. Let’s Make India Healthy Again! #LabelPadhegaIndia #RedDye3Ban
