@jemelehill His formula of sounding tough is similar to an 8 year old. He just peppers in the occasional "hell" and "damn" while half pouting.

@kanekallaway The only challenge against the idea is finding established creators vs creators who have an ownable POV and personality. The latter is more Barstool...then giving them the ownership to find the way that content best comes to life. Fail fast, build faster.

For an industry that employs so many strategists, how so few agencies and holding companies have a solid strategy around who they are and what they provide is mind-boggling. "Make more money" is not a strategy.

@madebybadcode PREACH And my favorite - any brand participating in "unhinged" TikTok and Twitter who are all "this was our idea 100% and no one else's!" when something lands and "we're young - it's not our fault!" when it doesn't.

This is frustrating semantics - yes, most parents support wanting the best for their child, but they've also become disenfranchised with the mismanagement of public school funds. This tries to circumnavigate the current problem, but it doesn't address it at all.
Texas GOP@TexasGOP

The #txlege House has scheduled debate on HB 1, a school choice bill, for the first time in over a decade. @TexasGOP Chairman @MattRinaldiTX released the following statement: “Governor Abbott has been relentless in his efforts to bring school choice to Texas. After multiple attempts to address the issue have failed in the House, Governor Abbott has forced them to tackle school choice head-on. Poll after poll shows a majority of Texans, across party lines, support school choice so parents can decide the best school for their child. We join the chorus of Governor @GregAbbott_TX, @GovernorPerry, and Senator @tedcruz in asking the Texas House to stand with parents.”

@Molson_Hart We've found luck with two approaches. 1. We talk about what we're going to do next and when it's going to happen. "TV's off in two min when this song is done." 2. Give this or that choices that gives him better control. "TV's off until tomorrow but we can eat or color."

Anyone got any parenting advice for me re my son (2 & 2 months)? He goes really hard. If he doesn’t get what he wants (in this case TV) he will scream nonstop. If you hold the line he will scream until he passes out and falls asleep then behavior repeats the next day.

@Adam_Karpiak Fully demoralizing. It's hard to draw a comparison to something else. It hurts emotionally and makes you question everything...if you misspoke, if you misrepresented, if you were never good enough in the first place, if you misread the situation. Just an overall bad time.

How would you describe the feeling of being ghosted during a job search? People who haven’t experienced it can’t fully understand how psychologically devastating it can be.

@jappleby Guilty of this too, but I see a lot of SMMs get in an echo chamber where they talk about all the roles they're forced to sometimes fill (copy, creative, strat, etc), and assume any other marketing role isn't also tasked to do the same breadth of work.

A take I see often: Social Media Managers are the next CMOs. I don't know, guys... not only do I not think SMMs are any more pre-qualified to become CMOs than any other marketing practice, but I don't think most SMMs would even like being a CMO. I know the arguments—that marketing has become more social, social pros are more exposed to culture, SMMs spend more time with the customers than other marketing professionals, everything is content, etc etc. They're all great arguments for why social media expertise is essential to every modern company, and certainly skills that would be helpful to a CMO, but I think those arguments ignore what most SMMs do and don't enjoy about their jobs. I've worked in social for 12 years. The overwhelming % of my LinkedIn & Twitter followers are social media professionals. And within that, the overwhelming % of those social media managers would say brainstorming and creating content is their favorite part of their job... but you're not gonna get to do any of that as a CMO. You'll be a marketing leader overtop an org. People or agencies will pitch you THEIR creative ideas. You'll get to have some influence on what's selected, but you will be far, FAR removed from actually ideating content, and definitely not MAKING content. I'd argue Social Media Managers should argue more to become the next wave of Creative Directors. I think those creatively-minded SMMs would enjoy that position a heckuva lot more than CMO. Those same SMMs who love creative would list things like dealing with legal, waiting for approvals, and red tape among their least favorite daily activities. That... that's what a CMO does. Every day. It's an organizational leadership position. CMOs are political positions, where you must champion and justify every idea and dollar. I know most of these posts are advocating for social media management to be taken more seriously—which is needed! Social professionals are essential and should be heard. But I also think these sort of basic arguments actually do a disservice to the social media industry. Candidly... it makes it look like social pros don't get how businesses work. And it makes us look like we don't understand how other marketing practices work, or what CMOs do. It doesn't advocate for SMMs as much as it makes us look immature. If we want social professionals to be considered as the next wave of CMOs, social professionals must become far more interested in the business itself, revenue, how to drive sales, ROI, inter-organizational pitching, selling, integrated marketing, budgeting, paid media, and 100 other marketing responsibilities. But far too often, it feels like our industry is more interested in how many likes are on an Instagram post than how we're building the business.
