Last week I made a scary decision: to leave Backpack and activate build mode 🏗️ Today was my last day. No new company. No new role. Just the thing that's always been calling me, but has always been a little too big of a leap away from the comfort of a full-time job. Anyway… heard there's a @colosseum hackathon going on? 👀

🚨 “If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST…” - President DONALD J. TRUMP

🚨 JPMORGAN: THE IRAN WAR BROKE TRADITIONAL OIL MARKETS, AND TRADERS FLED TO A CRYPTO EXCHANGE - HYPERLIQUID When Iranian strikes hit over a weekend and CME was closed, traders had nowhere to go except Hyperliquid. Per @jpmorgan, the platform's oil perpetual contract hit $1.7B in daily peak volume and $300M in open interest, nearly 250x the volume it saw before the first bombs fell, per Fortune. It became @HyperliquidX's third-most traded product overnight, driven entirely by non-crypto investors seeking 24/7 oil exposure while Wall Street slept. JPMorgan called it a structural shift: DeFi taking market share from traditional exchanges simply by staying open when they won't.

Today, Y Combinator is announcing that YC-funded startups can choose to receive their funding ($500k) in stablecoins. We believe stablecoins like @usdc are setting the stage for a new fintech renaissance and broader global access to financial services. Sending money should be as easy as sending a text message. Stablecoins make that possible: cheap, fast, and global, using currencies people already trust. Some of the fastest-growing YC startups in recent years like @get_aspora and @DolarApp use stablecoins to power faster, cheaper financial services across India and Latin America. Plus, with the passage of the GENIUS Act and growing adoption by financial institutions, we’re bullish. Whether crypto-focused or not, we expect many YC startups to use crypto in some way, from payments to banking to capital raising. If you’re building onchain, apply for our Spring ‘26 batch by Feb 9: ycombinator.com/apply
