"I have no idea whether I'll be cropping my fields in September...  farmers haven't got the money to go and spend on all these products, we're not all Jeremy Clarkson" Newsnight viewer and farmer Mark Baker White warns of the impact fertiliser price rises. #Newsnight

@timfarron Nonsense. You've been thoroughly captured by the NFU / farming & landowning lobby it seems. UK taxpayers subsidises farmers to the tune of around £2 billion pounds a year. Huge grants and subsidies are available for farmers (via the Gov.UK website for instance).

England is now the only country in Europe that doesn't financially support its farmers to produce food. Surely Trump's conflict in the Middle East and Putin's invasion of Ukraine show how utterly vital our food security is? The Government needs to wake up and back our farmers.

@timfarron I thought they were rife with subsidies, lots of fields round here have been to left to grow stuff I cant remember the name of to encourage insects etc. Shows how naive I am.

UK farm exports to the EU are down around 37% since Brexit. That’s lost markets, lost relationships, lost food security and lost income. Yet @NFUtweets leadership response is to double down on divergence, arguing it protects farmers. In reality, divergence is exactly what has made EU trade harder and more expensive in the first place. You cannot rebuild access to your largest and closest market while entrenching regulatory separation from it. You don’t rebuild your biggest market while hard-coding exclusion from it. independent.co.uk/bulletin/news/…

@FarmersGuardian @JeremyClarkson Of course Clarkson isn't happy. Family farms can now escape tax if they're worth up to £5m But landowners like him will still have to pay his inheritance tax People doing nightshifts on minimum wage pay tax. Why shouldn't multi-millionaires like Clarkson?

🗣️ "A battle has been won. But the fight goes on.” @JeremyClarkson says the Government's raising of IHT exemption thresholds does not go far enough for farmers. ❌📣 Writing in The Sun, he said: "There are still thousands of farmers out there who are having to deal with the stress of knowing that they cannot pass their farm on to the only people who know how to run it.” --- #farming #inheritancetax #familyfarmtax

@NoFarmsNoFoods Average farm subsidy is around £18,300 per farm. Should hard-working taxpayers reduce how much they are subsidising farms?

Labour’s own rigged report just let the cat out of the bag. Baroness Batters confirms what we all know: Starmer’s death tax will hammer farm profitability and push families to the brink. The best bit? They banned her from recommending they scrap it. They know this destroys family farms. That’s the point! Bankrupt the owners, force a sale, and carpet our countryside in industrial solar panels. It’s not incompetence; it’s a rural clearance strategy.

@NoFarmsNoFoods There is no such thing as a family farm tax. There's Inheritance tax, and every UK citizen is bound by its rules. You aren't special, even though you get special treatment. Pay your taxes.

Here’s a Labour MP (David Smith) calling out the Labour government on their cruel inheritance tax punishment on family farms. More Labour MPs should show more courage like this and adopt the politics of principles rather than cowardly party politics.

So this government have pledged £536m for foreign agriculture but are land grabbing in the form of IHT from our hardworking farmer’s How is this fair & how is this morally right? If we lose our farms we lose our food.

@barnack1 @GBNEWS Typical return on capital employed for farming is 0.5-1.0%. Most other businesses operate on a ROCE of 5-8% so farming cannot pay this tax from profits, even over 10 years at 20%. That’s the difference.

@GBNEWS Why are other small businesses not joining farmers to help with their protests?. These hikes in inheritance tax will be bad for all small family businesses not just farms.

@John2Win It's not a Family Farm Tax. It's simply "Tax". We all have to pay it but at twice the rate of farmers. Those farmers need to get back to their Tory-sponsored rewilding projects.....put in place to appease the farmers whose food production was shafted by Brexit!!

Just words. This government has gone out of its way to throttle farms & the rural economy. If you mean a word of this, scrap your own Family Farm Tax & relaunch a properly funded SFI, today.
