News: #Italian construction firm #Webuild receives Samoter Innovation Award for #GERD project Italian construction company Webuild has received the #Samoter_Innovation_Award 2026 for its work on the Grand #Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the company announced. The award was presented during the Samoter International Construction Machinery Exhibition organized by Veronafiere in #Italy. According to Webuild, the recognition highlights the technological and engineering achievements of the GERD project, which it described as a transformative infrastructure undertaking with major implications for Ethiopia’s industrial and energy development. Established in 1973, the Samoter Innovation Award is considered one of Europe’s long-standing recognitions for excellence in construction engineering and technological innovation. Webuild said the judges recognized the GERD not only for its engineering complexity, but also for its broader economic and social impact. The company described the dam as the largest hydroelectric project in Africa and among the leading hydropower facilities globally. Once fully operational, the dam is expected to double Ethiopia’s electricity generation capacity through renewable energy production with no greenhouse gas emissions. According to technical details released by the company, the dam stands 170 meters high and stretches 1.8 kilometers in length, with an installed generation capacity of 5,150 megawatts and an annual production potential of 15,700 gigawatt-hours. Webuild also highlighted what it described as a world record achieved during construction in 2014, when 23,000 cubic meters of concrete were poured within 24 hours. The judges further acknowledged the socio-economic infrastructure developed around the project site, including a hospital, clinics, schools, sports facilities, road networks, and production services. More than 25,000 people, most of them Ethiopians, participated in the construction of the project and acquired specialized technical skills during the process, according to the company.

#UN Secretary-General António Guterres remarked that “those with a solid past tend to have a solid future,” noting that Ethiopia preserved its independence when much of Africa was divided by colonial powers. Ethiopia, one of the original 51 signatories of the 1945 UN Charter, remains a key champion of multilateralism and international cooperation, reflecting the enduring partnership between Ethiopia and the United Nations. Describing Ethiopia as an ancient civilization and one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, Guterres highlighted the country’s remarkable development trajectory and strategic global relevance. #Africa #Ethiopia #UN #IFA

🗣️Liverpool manager Arne Slot on what he thinks #Arsenal have done better than any other team this season: “The team that is going to win the league, at least I assume, I think Arsenal is going to win the league, is a team that has large spells in a game where they have to defend in a low block and they do that really well by the way, that’s also one of the reasons why they’re going to win the league. “You have to sometimes accept you don’t want this but if the other team has the ball but you have to defend, which is quite common in football.”

Good to see current US Admin finally recognize Ethiopia's geostrategic importance. US shouldn't choose between Egypt or Ethiopia, as both can be valued partners. If Ethiopia settles domestic problems its value grows exponentially! theafricareport.com/418518/washing…

🗣️| Thierry Henry: “I woke up with a smile this morning because it’s been 20 years since we got to the Champions League final. To be in a position to compete for the Premier League, it’s been 22 years since we won it that as well. We still haven’t lost in Europe and we’re not conceding many goals, that has to count for something. “PSG though will have the experience of winning it and they won’t have any fear. Hopefully we go there and be brave but we have to beat the defending champions so it won’t be easy, we know that. “I’m usually not too nervous but I think I will be nervous for that final because they could do something I couldn’t do myself. “You want your team to win and experience that. Hopefully it’s going to happen but look at how PSG played tonight, they can kill you in both ways, by scoring more goals than you and by neutralising you. “The best team on the night and in the tie won and they went about it in a different way against Bayern. “They have everything they need but Arsenal have been resilient and when we do create we score goals. It will be difficult but let’s see.” [CBS] #afc

🗣️Thierry Henry says #Arsenal man Bukayo Saka deserves a lot of credit for how he has dealt with adversity this season: “Bukayo’s been questioned all season. Can he be the guy? Is he not the guy? Is he the star boy? Is he not the star boy? Is he better than him or not better than him? Today he had to play with barely training. I know he’s suffering with his Achilles tendon. “He came back, I spoke to him and he came back and was like: “I’ve got to be on the pitch. I’ve got to be on the pitch against Fulham. I have to be. It’s do or die”. “So you have to give those guys a lot of credit. Sometimes we take it for granted. We all played through injuries. We all played with moments where you’re not 100 per cent and he had to do it, deliver it for Arsenal.”

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐱𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐯𝐢𝐥 -- 𝐄𝐠𝐲𝐩𝐭, 𝐄𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚, 𝐒𝐮𝐝𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐓𝐏𝐋𝐅 – 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Egypt’s El Sisi, Sudan’s Burhan, Eritrea’s Afewerki, and the lunatic fringe of the TPLF – the Horned Axis of Evil —are working in concert to thwart and delegitimize Ethiopia’s June 1, 2026 parliamentary election and create a crisis of political legitimacy in Ethiopia. On November 2, 2022, the Ethiopian Government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) signed the African Union-brokered Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (COHA),” (also known as the Pretoria Agreement) formally ending a war that cost the lives of some 600 thousand people. That Agreement prohibited all forms of hostilities, both direct and indirect including participating in proxy wars, using hate speech, propaganda, airstrikes or landmines, or collaborating with any hostile external force against each other. 𝐎𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟒, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, the lunatic fringe of the TPLF terrorist group declared itself the legitimate regional government of Tigray, effectively invalidating the Pretoria Agreement and signaling its intentions to restart another war. On May 1, 2026, the British Embassy in Addis Ababa tweeted insisting on “implementation of the Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (COHA),” and “discouraging actions that are not in the spirit or framework of COHA.” The US position has been crystal clear. U.S. Ambassador Ervin Massinga has repeatedly emphasized that the Pretoria Peace Agreement is the essential foundation for lasting stability in Tigray, urging its full implementation to address ongoing humanitarian crises. During visits to the region in 2025 and 2026, Ambassador Massinga said while humanitarian aid is vital, it is not a long-term solution and stressed the need for an Ethiopian-led, UN-backed process for the safe and voluntary return of internally displaced persons (IDPs). For the past two years, Eritrea's strongman Isaias Afewerki has been providing military support to fringe elements of the TPLF to breach the Pretoria Agreement in an effort to destabilize Ethiopia. Afewerki believes he can use fringe TPLF factions as well as other proxy bandits and desperadoes in Northern Ethiopia to weaken Ethiopian federal authority and trigger its collapse. 𝐎𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟒, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐒𝐮𝐝𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐚 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 from its territory to attack Sudanese civilians and Khartoum airport. For years, Burhan and his predecessors have been training and supporting the TPLF and other terrorists destabilize Ethiopia. On May 5, 2026, U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Masad Boulos, tweeted, “the United States condemns yesterday’s drone attack on Khartoum airport and other civilian sites, reportedly committed by the RSF. Civilian objects must not be targeted…” 𝐍𝐨 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤. Then there is Egypt’s El Sisi, the Grand Puppet Master in the Horn of Africa, who is hellbent on using Afewerki, Burhan and fringe TPLF elements to unleash civil war Ethiopia. In February 2026, Sisi sent an expeditionary force of some one thousand troops to Somalia on the pretext of supporting the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM). That was the first time in decades Egypt deployed troops in Somalia. Ethiopia’s parliamentary election is set for June 1, 2026. All of the war drum beating and war boogie dances by El Sisi, Afwerki, Burhan and TPLF terrorists amount to nothing more than a futile and ludicrous attempt to create hullabaloo and commotion in the run up to the Ethiopian election. The Horned Axis of Evil believe that if they can manage to start conflict just before the election, they can derail the Ethiopia election, create chaos and cast doubt on the legitimacy of its outcome thereby creating a major political crises in Ethiopia. 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨̀ 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 “𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐲” 𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐝, “𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞.” 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝, 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐮𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐬, 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐚𝐫. Sisi should remember the Battle of Gundet (1875) and the Battle of Gura (1876). Burhan should remember Ethiopia’s active role in trying to mediate the three-year civil war in Sudan while maintaining its neutrality. Afewerki should remember the 1998-2000 war between Ethiopia and Eritrea. The TPLF terrorists launched a war on the people and government of Ethiopia in November 2020 believing they can return to power in a blitzkrieg (mebreqawi) military operation. Ethiopian National Defense Forces vanquished the TPLF in less than two weeks. But Uncle Joe Biden, through manipulation by the Princess of Darkness Susan Rice, saved their behinds.
