At the 34th International Red Cross & Red Crescent Conference, CIVIC’s ED @CIVICHichem highlighted critical risks to civilians in conflict zones, stressing State responsibilities for their protection. He urged warring parties to avoid using explosive weapons in populated areas and called on States to halt weapon transfers that could harm civilians. He also emphasized the growing harm caused by disinformation and misinformation to civilian populations in armed conflict and the need to tackle it. @ICRC @ifrc

Infuriating and painful to put into words, but here are brutal facts: Children in Gaza are entering their worst-ever month in this year long war on children.

#Gaza : another night of horror in the middle areas. Tents up in flames due to an airstrike on the courtyard of Al Aqsa hospital where people sought shelter. Meanwhile, in the same area, an @UNRWA school was hit with 20 people reported killed. The school was planned to be used for the #polio vaccination campaign which started today. We had to cancel the vaccination campaign in that school due to severe damage. #Gaza is a never ending hell. All of this must not become the new norm. Humanity must prevail.

When cities are bombed. When cities are shelled. When cities are hit by airstrikes, rockets or artillery fire. It’s the civilians who suffer. When wars are fought in cities, an estimated 90% of casualties are civilians. Heavy explosive weapons shouldn't be used in cities.
