Reinventing the wheel is essential to achieving mastery
Start learning every skill by doing a perfect replica of a masterwork—a painting, a website, a product, a story
You’ll appreciate all the details that went into making something great, and have a to-do list of what to improve upon (the difference between your version and what you copied)
PS. Mastery is defined as being able to make something masterful without reference material

A few ways to navigate this as someone who's lived in the UK all of their life:
1. Move close to nature. You want multiple walking routes at your doorstep.
2. Move close to community. Good pubs, restaurants, schools. Use your local amenities.
3. If you have family and friends around, see them as often as you can.
4. Travel lots. You're right in the middle of the map.
5. Take your holidays in November and February. Get out of the cold in the dead months.
6. Stay at home June to August. Do staycations while it's warm. There's nothing like a great British summer.
7. Make friends with people from other countries. Learn to take inspiration from success. Get some perspective.
8. Advertise your services globally on the internet to break through local price ceilings.
9. Go to the gym. Especially when it's dark.
10. Remember that happiness comes from within. A new place can improve your quality of life, but your internal problems will follow you wherever you go.

🇬🇧 British people are now the 2nd most miserable people in the world Previous happiness studies are based on income, wealth and healthcare quality, simply putting Western countries on top always, very very biased The new Mental State of the World report is the first happiness ranking that actually makes sense and is based on surveys of satisfaction People in many low-income countries are actually MORE happy regardless of income: in this case for example 🇩🇴 Dominican Republic and 🇱🇰 Sri Lanka are VERY happy While people in a high-income country like United Kingdom are VERY unhappy Added the data to Nomad List for the [ ☺️ Happy ] filter

Your entire life can change in three years...
Three years of focused, daily effort.
One year may create a dramatic shift, but three years will blow your mind.
Trust me, I've lived it.
Three years ago, I was walking down a very different path.
A good path, but not my path.
Not the one that I would find meaning meaning in.
Not the one that I was uniquely made to follow.
Three years of focused, daily effort, and here we are:
Last night in London, 500+ people came out to meet, listen, ask, and share.
My younger, insecure, nervous self would be blown way. My present self is simply filled with gratitude.
After the event, we got kicked out of the venue and took to the streets.
I stood out in the cold for two hours to make sure I met and spoke to every single person that stayed.
I heard stories from people in all walks of life. From a 17-year-old deciding whether to go all in on his entrepreneurial dream to a 40-year-old who had tragically lost a child. There were smiles, tears, laughs, and more.
The experience reinvigorated my energy in my singular mission:
To create positive ripples in the world.
I still don't know what my exact path looks like, but I'm certainly walking it.
"As you start to walk on the way, the way appears." - Rumi

@dr_nigel_lane @NHSEngland As you say you have been a cons for 9 years, a junior before that. A time period in which pay has been eroded by the govt. You may not need more pay, but your juniors do — fight for them if you actually care about supporting the same clinicians supporting you on your wards.

Some Consultants will strike tomorrow and Friday in the @NHSEngland. I will not. I am coming in to work a normal weekday shift both days. I have been a consultant for 9 years.
I do no private work and can live on my pay which is over 3 times the average UK salary.
