@linkerthegreat @larpcapitalwc Trading vol component I presume? As opposed to the conventional “price has to move outside/inside the breakevens blah blah” What I’m getting at is the strategy has its place, sure, but overall it’s largely a “bolt-on” for an existing portfolio. money to be made, but no homeruns

If a delta is the probability an option ends up itm I just can’t understand why you’d buy/sell a straddle when the net delta is 0 so you have basically a 0% chance of making money

@gainerham @larpcapitalwc I understand the vol trade but my sense is that the edge is incredibly small. The game is to make a sliver as often as you can, and compound that but for 99% of investors it’s just not a viable strategy. The avg discretionary joe is not buying straddles and making money (I think)

@thetchuck @ArmchairW I think that kind of supports my point. basically everyone on earth except for a very small fraction of people actually believe Israel has any claim to that land. Most people think it’s an insane ancient lie.

@poordart It was officially denied already The OP has nothing to do with Sharjah, you’re just reading it that way because of confirmation bias. by the way, I asked for your source… quite telling that you aren’t able to come up with that…

@poordart obviously, since it’s from April of this year… the ruler of Sharjah himself said the country is strong and united and not to listen to rumors. Now do the source for your rumour lol

@poordart this is a summary, you can listen to the full thing where he tells the people not to listen to rumours, and that he has faith in the leadership and the armed forces of the UAE. I’m sorry this doesn’t align with the AI slop you normally gobble up but this is the truth.

@rickjeff78 Dumbest take I’ve seen on this app. You must have zero understanding of the development of nuclear power in the region (like for instance the US’s involvement in early nuclear power in Iran), and subsequent efforts to manage enrichment (stuxnet is great example). read a book

If Iran wanted nukes they'd already have them by now. The secret has only been out for 80 years and half the world knows how to make them. If North Korea can figure it out, Iran can, too. 20 years ago, Khamenei declared that they were religiously forbidden by Islam.

40 years old and I just bought my first pair of Timberland boat shoes. Now teach me: socks or no socks? And do they survive 30C / 86F days?

@GavMcCracken Well Gavin, to be fair, the UAE has been looking to depart OPEC for years now. they have been pumping less than the efficient volume, and represent the majority of spare capacity. in effect, subsidizing the export revenues of other members. think this PHD has it right…

Sigh. And this is why I don't care about my PhD being a "credential". At the end of the day, you're either good, or you suck, letters are meaningless. Here a "PhD economist" (in X bio) believes OPEC was preventing the UAE from producing more oil (not strait of hormuz closure).
Daniel Lacalle@dlacalle_IA

The UAE has more than 4 million barrels per day of spare capacity. Unconstrained by OPEC quotas, it can offset all of Iran's production in a few months and all Iranian exports (1,3 mbpd before the war) in a matter of weeks. via Bloomberg
