Fred Zagone, S.J., @MarquetteU chaplain and a cherished friend to the Foley family, passed away this week, leaving behind a legacy defined by kindness, service, and unwavering care for all who knew him. For many years, Father Fred gave a yearly invocation at the James W. Foley Freedom Awards and in 2024, we were honored to present him with the Foley Hero Award in recognition of his “strong contribution to the legacy of James W. It is with sadness and much love and appreciation that U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan and her siblings, Franny and Frank Wood, report the death of their mother, Peggy Wood. Peggy lived a full and vibrant life, raising three children, teaching history, and later instructing teachers as they entered the profession. An avid sailor, tennis player, and gardener, she was also a committed community leader having served as the President of her local League of Women Voters, and on numerous nonprofit boards. She also dedicated much of her intellect, energy, and love to her husband, Bob Wood, whose career as a public intellectual and public servant wouldn’t have been possible without her. She was 94 years old.

Yesterday, the Foley Foundation remembered Cydney Mizell. Cydney was an aid worker in Afghanistan teaching English when she was abducted and killed in 2008. Her remains were recovered in 2023 and returned to her family. Cydney devoted her life to helping others, and that life was tragically cut short. The Foley Foundation honors her memory.
