@Tacofridge @marissenmark Why should a smaller groups of people who happen to own large swaths of land have more political power than thousands of human beings whose lives, economies, and futures are tied to the decisions made about that region?

@marissenmark Why should a bunch of people crammed into an apartment building have more say over large swaths of land that they have no connection to?

This “average population per seat” problem doesn’t just apply to those three provinces, it applies to urban seats. Rural voters have a disproportionately higher number of seats both federally and provincially, including in Alberta. Urban voters in Alberta are also less likely to be separatist. Our MPs and MLA's should represent people, not land.
National Post@nationalpost

Reforming Parliament seat distribution could help douse Western separatist flames: report nationalpost.com/news/politics/…

Here is the Ryan Lindgren hit on Evan Bouchard in real time! Ryan Leonard with a great back check forcing Bouchard wide and Lindgren has him lined up! This play is happening so fast, Bouchard has his head down and tries to cut back inside! The concussion happens from Evan Bouchard’s head hitting the ice, not from the hit! If anything this is a 2 minute interference penalty but don’t think it’s a dirty hit! I think this is on Evan Bouchard having his head down and not protecting himself!
The cfb lliason@realfbllliason

This hit by Ryan Lindgren on Evan Bouchard was a 100 percent clean hit, shoulder to shoulder! Maybe Evan Bouchard should keep his head up

@integritycdn Hard to remove facilities, but personnel and materials would be moved out eventually. I guess it would make housing a little more affordable in Ft Saskatchewan, North Edmonton and the small communities around the base.

@KnightLegg Running the O&G economy of Alberta is the same challenge as being a conservative and getting elected in rural Alberta.

Wab enjoyed his 2 minutes of lecturing the Premier of the best performing economy in Canada with staged freelance legal advice. She has to deal with how to legally manage a third of Albertans wanting to leave the decade-long economic and political failure of the national NDP-Liberal decline - reflected by him and Eby. Wab has turned off all comments on X after running into a bit of pushback. That vitriol and frustration is something Premier Smith deals with every day. Hate to say it but the pretence of a lot of these CBC NDP darlings would last a hot minute in a boardroom in Calgary. If they can’t take a little social media heat after coming out swinging on TV about Alberta’s legal options, it’s going to be an interesting five months.
David Knight Legg@KnightLegg

Wab may love Canada. But this wasn’t about Canada. This was about Wab promoting himself with a carefully scripted legal attempt to interpret indigenous “consultation” as a de facto veto power over Alberta’s referendum laws. Anyone asking why a third of Canada’s most successful economy wants to leave Canada only needs to watch this smirky legal freelancing by a couple debt-addicted NDP premiers who have lost control of simple things like property rights in BC. Direct democracy is less scary to most Albertans than the NDP “interpreting” our laws.

@CanadianModera1 It probably is a valid point given children born to children of Canadian citizens in who live in foreign countries and have never been to Canada can have citizenship.

Separatists are telling us we can keep our Canadian passports & citizenship, even if the province secedes. Citizenship is a right granted by Canada. Canada would have absolutely no legal obligation -and little political incentive - to grant dual citizenship. Just sayin...

@anonfmresident @tammyandjp You are partially correct. Equalization payments are based off fiscal capacity of the province. They receive payments if they fall below the national avg. The only real outlier is Quebec, due to their hydro power.

@tammyandjp It has no bearing. Province do not pay nor receive. People pay or receive. The province of residency is not relevant. The key factors are age and income.

@ClintonDesveaux No shit genius. None of this explains why PEI receives more for every resident in FUNDING. We already know Albertans contribute more per capita which is bad enough, it’s unfair to compound that fact by funding Alberta the lowest per capita. Funding per capita should be EQUAL.

@RiseOfAlberta Its funny, you say the democratic will of 300,000 people has been blocked, but it doesn’t take into affect the 2.7 million people who showed their democratic will by not signing the petition.

🚨 BREAKING: A liberal-appointed judge just blocked the democratic will of 300,000+ Albertans who signed through the Citizen Initiative Act process to put Independence on the Oct. 19 ballot. Danielle Smith must use her authority, listen to Albertans, and let the people vote.

It’s hard to imagine living in a place where Craig Chandler, Artur Pawlowsk, David Parker, James Bauder, Mitch Sylvestre, Kevin J. Johnston, Keene Baxte, Benita Pedersen, and Jeffrey Rath are treated as respectable. Seeing them receive regular positive coverage in Western Standard and Rebel is truly embarrassing.

Is it crazy to think the Oilers off-season is just. Resign Dickinson, Kapanen and Murphy. Keep RFA’s Dach and Stastney Trade for Cossa. Sign one free agent forward.

@tburns34 Judging decisions 2 yrs after the fact is always easy. If they had won cup, no one would have cared. The worst part, as a fan, is you never get the whole story on how the decisions were made. Hopefully they make the right choices this year

Jeff Jackson (and Stan Bowman) absolutely decimated the Oilers chances to have a prolonged window at multiple Cups two summers ago. The decision to prioritize re-signing aging role players (Perry, Brown, Janmark, and Henrique) over Holloway and Broberg was a colossal miscalculation. Then (and probably due to a bull-headed owner) they decided not to match and let them walk for nothing. Broberg long-term would have allowed for: a) a lesser role for Ekholm as he began to enter the twilight of his career b) the ability to offload Nurse or force him into 3LD which would slot him where he should be and potentially also make him want to waive his NMC c) not needing to trade for Walman a year ago And THEN, in classic Oilers fashion they make reactionary moves to previous mistakes. They learn the wrong lesson from their failure and overcorrect. SO, last summer, they say, "oh shit, we need to lock up some of these young players." Inexplicably signing Walman to 7x7 and Frederic to 7 years as well. Don't address the goaltending at all in the summer, and then trade for a worse goalie on a worse contract that will now hamstring us further. It's a tale as old as time: Petry for a 3rd. Cogliano for a 3rd. Not knowing what we had in Glencross and Brodziak and letting them walk. Eberle for Strome for Spooner. Hall for Larsson. Trading a 1st for Reinhart. CONSTANT recency and local bias. Buying out Pouliot for no reason. Not doing anything to replace Sekera in 17-18. It's just insane that you have two of the top 4 playoff point producers of all time and you couldn't surround them with enough support and goaltending to win even a single cup.

@thackattack41 Too much of a risk at $6.8 with the Oilers defensive structure. He fell off horribly at the end of the year and Minnesota is much better defensively structured team.

If I'm Bowman, I'm moving Jarry to whomever will take him and yes, I'm adding assets to incentivize a trade. Then I'm calling Bill Guerin about Filip Gustavsson (full NMC), who has a $6.8M extension kick in next year.

One key factor that should be discussed among management, coaches and players is that the Oilers have never had a consistent defensive identity. Have had glimpses, but nothing that lasts. Until that occurs, Cup will be hard to hoist.

@rayferraro21 I understand some flexibility on the part of players -- I am not being dense. I know there's a cap and it all has to fit. But he took such a steep discount. It never sat right with me. I wouldn't have minded if it had worked out, for his sake. Tough look that it ended so poorly

@rayferraro21 Next, year if it is the same result, then these questions can be asked, as the deal has not come into effect. The first round exit sets them up good for next year. Time to rest, train and get a good mindset again. Think last year’s loss beat them hard mentally.
