Most discussions about blockchain still stop at “whether data is available or not”, even though that’s only the surface. In truly distributed networks, the main problem actually lies in the journey of the data itself, how it passes through many nodes, faces loss at each hop, and still arrives intact without wasting too many resources. Classical approaches like Reed-Solomon are indeed solid, but they were designed for simpler paths. It doesn’t really utilize the network in between, so when a packet is lost, the impact can accumulate along the path. In the end, the solution used is to add redundancy from the start, which actually becomes inefficient as the scale grows larger. RLNC comes with a different perspective, each node “contributes” by combining the data it receives and forwarding it again. As a result, almost no packet is wasted because every transmission carries new information. The difference feels significant, not a small optimization, but a change in how networks work. As the scale increases, the performance gap is no longer linear, it can become exponential. If blockchain wants to be truly scalable, the focus cannot only be on availability. What matters far more is how the data flows. @get_optimum
