@RCPMWx @jjrennie + criteria for issuing products evolve over time as we learn more. IA State database is a great resource!

@RCPMWx @jjrennie Counting is tricky because the products are for varying duration, and in some cases varying spatial units. One line in the database could be "more" than 20 other lines.

Every summer we get searing heat waves and reporters reach out to ask me: "Are we prepared?" The answer is still no.

Highs tomorrow for the region will be the hottest so far this year, including a high of 106°F for #Phoenix and Yuma, and 107° in El Centro. Take heat safety precautions, especially outdoors, and make it a safe Sunday! #AZWX #CAWX

Shade is mentioned as a solution 86 times in the 175 city plans from the 50 most populous cities. @ArianeMiddel's 50 Grades of Shade shows shade comes from lots of land features. Guess what cities prescribe? #extremeheat #shade

The heat really ramps up Saturday. Since this is the first heat event of the year, most of us aren't acclimated. It would be wise to take extra precautions to protect yourself from the heat. #azwx #cawx

Since #Phoenix officially escaped the first 100º+ day of the year today, it doesn't look like chances of hitting it will be very high until next month! If we can make it past May 5th, it would be the latest first 100º+ day since 2010, when the first day was on May 21st! #azwx

@wxphx @ASU @ASUMaRTy @NOAA It seems to have really accelerated the heat conversation in many of the participating cities! + triggered some interesting science/methods questions as well. Lots of credit to @caplter @ArianeMiddel and others for keeping our region on the leading edge of "heat data".

.@ASUHondula Hi Dave! Just curious, has anything like this been done in Phoenix before? This sounds interesting. I see Las Vegas is about the closest of the 14 in this study. noaa.gov/news-release/n…

@wxphx Hi Ken thanks for the note! With decades of urban climate research from @ASU and partners and increasingly sophisticated tools like @ASUMaRTy, it hasn't been obvious to me that this effort would bring high value to our region compared to others.

@wxphx @ASU @ASUMaRTy We absolutely can and should keep monitoring our progress over time, hopefully seeing very large differences in nhood temperatures reduced (by cooling the hotter ones). The task at hand as I see it to get the relevant programming, policies, processes, and funding lined up!
