I’m so excited to finally announce my first e-book: Homestyle Hungarian Baking: Simple Coffeehouse Favorites for the Home Kitchen While I spent a lot of time in Budapest filming the showstopper desserts, I kept noticing the quieter, simpler bakes that appear all over Hungary, both in coffeehouses and in home kitchens. These everyday recipes are just as much a part of Hungarian cuisine as the creations of pastry chefs. This book is about those recipes. Simple Hungarian bakes you’ll find in bakeries but might just as easily see on a grandmother’s table. They’re practical, unfussy, and suited to home kitchens, and this collection is my way of sharing the foods that felt most rooted in daily Magyar life. In this book you will: —Get a feel for Hungarian food culture through simple, everyday bakes —Bake 9 classic Hungarian cakes, pastries, cookies, and breads —Learn practical European baking techniques adapted for real home kitchens —Discover Central European flavors like poppy seed, sour cherry, walnut, & apricot —Follow clear, reliable recipes with both US and metric measurements This book was created as a companion to the video series I'm releasing over the next few weeks. Taken together, they offer a well-rounded look at Hungarian baking culture—both the showstoppers and the everyday bakes. I hope you enjoy this! So much love went into testing and curating these recipes for you all!

@vesalius74 @roadcoconut @CatholicCharm What I'm reading from all of these responses is Europeans don't have very many children. We can go through something like this in a month because I'm packing lunches for 3 kids five days a week. I don't buy juice, but we easily go through 1-2 gallons of milk each week.

@roadcoconut @BakeEurope @CatholicCharm I understand your point, and those large packages make sense in this case. But most households are smaller, and buy those big packages nevertheless. I never understood the american custom of selling milk or orange juice in one-gallon-canisters. No one would buy it in Europe.

@BakeEurope @CatholicCharm How far is your local supermarket? Surely driving to the supermarket is just as convenient. Also, I've never ever finished a bottle of mayo 😂

My wife made me a chocolate chip pancake to go and my kids chased my car down the street yelling goodbye as I headed off to the office. Strong start to a Tuesday.

@BakeEurope Very nice! Do you follow Jamie Schler @lifesafeast here or on the 'gram/Substack? She has a French inn and writes about rustic/historic French food--her dishes look really lovely.

I've been on a bit of a French 🇫🇷 food kick lately. Tonight, I decided to go all out and make a four course dinner, serving: 🥖 Onion tart 🥖 Celery root velouté 🥖 Crème fraîche herb roasted chicken 🥖 Hazelnut blancmange All the recipes are from Mimi Thorisson's books. I'll put them below.

@liebeskindred It's not really something eaten here, so you only find 1 or 2 sitting on the shelf in the stores. I was so surprised how sweet it was after sautéing and simmering it. So good!

@FinanciallyUp I was surprised that they ate most of it! Halfway through the velouté, the 4 year old decided he didn't like it, but they tried everything. I've raised them on my cooking adventures, so they're kind of used to trying out-of-the-ordinary things by now.

@BakeEurope That sounds amazing! I don't know if my kids would eat anything other than the chicken.

@BakeEurope I don't know! I'm sure someone has a strong opinion about it somewhere. Some sound more correct to me though. I would never say tater tot casserole.

I just realized that my children are missing out on the very important Midwestern tradition of eating lots of casseroles/hot dishes

@owroot I love that it's very similar to the small paperback Reclam books that they use in Germany for classic literature.
