I just like and retweet, mostly but sometimes leave smart ass funny comments, a boring follow for the most part.

@jpatrick92 @BeefMcQueen @BamaSaltyMarine The cheese was not shelf stable but most of the rest of the things were. The cheese lasted a while but eventually molded. It was kinda like Velveeta and American cheese. Good as a kid, too processed for most adults.

If MREs are good enough for our troops, why not for welfare? What if EBT was replaced with monthly MRE deliveries, 8 cases per person. No misuse. No luxury. Just food. Needs met. Problem solved!

@jpatrick92 @Divided_W0rld @BamaSaltyMarine We had pallets of the juice box style UHT milk when I was stationed in Germany in the early 90’s. Now that shit is becoming more and more common in the USA due to the long shelf life.

@Divided_W0rld @BamaSaltyMarine Thankfully I was never destitute or desperate enough to have to consider drinking the powdered milk. The sight of it alone was enough to make my stomach churn. You could stir it for an hour and it'd still have huge disgusting chunks in it. Blegh🤮

@BamaSaltyMarine It's basically what I ate when I was a kid growing up on it. Nasty crumbly cheese, powdered milk🥴 (shudder), and rice.

@RealThomSieloff @darrelltalksfi No, I think it’s a great plan. Especially the first 4 plex when you rent out the other 3 units. I spent most of my working years as a locksmith and have seen the downside of property ownership at eviction time. I’m sure it works out great if you find good renters.

I’m 31 with $100k+ saved. I can put it toward a house down payment, or invest it and keep renting. What would you do?

@RealThomSieloff @darrelltalksfi He’s gonna have to deal with renters. One of my friends got a phone call from a renter of a house he owned saying the propane tank was empty in wintertime. He had no choice but to fill it to keep the pipes from freezing.

@darrelltalksfi Buy a 4plex, live in one of the units and rent out the other three. You can get it with 3% down but if you do, you have to live there. And if you do, you can duplicate the process every year. I would shoot for 5 4plexes, then retire.

@darrelltalksfi I’d take that $100K to the casino, play blackjack and double it. If you lose, just blame the boomers for making everything so expensive.

This woman built a 1,000-gallon stock tank pool for under $1,000 — and it actually looks really good. She got the poly tank from Tractor Supply for $599, added a filter, a small waterfall feature for the outlet, and basic chemicals to keep it swimmable all summer. Total came in well under budget, and now she has a pool to float in whenever she wants. She also explains why she chose the poly tank over the metal ones and why you shouldn’t just ask ChatGPT what chemicals to add to your pool. Would you ever try a stock tank pool, or do you already have one?

@DissentFu On the upside, there is discounting housing for 55 and over people. If you don’t have any savings, owning a house would be bad. There’s always something to fix. Would be great to just buy a house if nothing ever went wrong and it was somehow cheaper than renting but it isn’t.

Here is a story about a group of students who fundraised and worked for an entire year to bring Neil de Grasse Tyson to speak at an event: "We were a small college club with around 10 members and on a whim one of our members emailed tyson's agent to see if we could book him. We found out it would cost 40k (it raised to 50k in December of that year where I think it still might be) for his speaking fee plus expenses to have him come to our college for 1 day where he'd host a small lecture, a press meeting, dinner with up to 6 people, and the main lecture and a book signing time permitting. We decided to go for it, and spent a year where our club exclusively worked on bringing him in. When he arrived, myself and others introduced ourselves and our fields of study. He went after first of us in humanities or soft sciences pretty much relentlessly from the get go. We're all used to the philosophy major working at McDonald's joke, but he wasn't trying to be funny, and spent the ride from the airport making repeated comments about the uselessness of our majors. Additionally he spent about 5 minutes trying to show that logic was stupid but he was citing logical rules and Occam's razor. The small lecture was him bragging about how famous he was, and how easy it is to pull yourself out of poverty or etc. The dinner was for leaders of other clubs so helped us raise money. He took the piss out of how one student held her fork, and was impossibly smug when giving advice to physics students. The main event was a terribly boring lecture consisting of fart jokes and fan service; teasing the upcoming TV series he was in and not much else. He spent a quarter of the time reading Sagan's blue dot, which is nice but shouldn't have cost us because it wasn't his material. He left at about 2am, and we were all exhausted because we had spent the day busy setting up and tearing down. The whole affair cost nearly 85k. The additional money being for locations, personnel, air fare, Tyson's hotel, catering, etc. We all decided he was an ass hole. I'd never want to spend 16 hours with a celebrity again." From another member of the same group: "Neil deGrasse Tyson, who came to our university, gave a crappy speech rife with lame fart jokes, was rude and disrespectful with the people who organized the event (there were a couple campus clubs working on it for about a year). He equated one of the group's member's philosophy major as a degree in mental masturbation. We were so pumped to hear a talk about the universe, astrophysics, black holes and dark matter, and instead he gave a speech on debunking lame pop media science misconceptions such as the "supermoon" because the organizing club is known as a skeptic/secular humanist society. He then basically said he did us a favor and that we "owed him one" for that. He delivered a private lecture to our group and members of the campus physics club in which he realized he had said something witty, whipped out hsi iphone, and spent the next fifteen minutes trying to come up with the perfect wording for it to post it to his twitter. In the middle of a lecture we spent a year's work and $55k total to organize."

I think Neil de Grasse Tyson just plain sucks. He has none of the depth of Carl Sagan, none of the humility Hawking, nor scientific accomplishments. He is a gotcha sound-byte narcissist, an absolute dead weight to society, he just fucking sucks

@TheJJChiles @TheCptGreybeard I get that it was the West edge before Lewis & Clark, but it makes no sense to keep calling it the “Midwest” as it relates to modern geography.

This may be a hot take, but following many travels, I've determined that THIS is the Midwest. Dakotas are amazing, but are nothing like the Midwest. Missouri feels more like a Southern state than Midwest. Kentucky is more like Tennessee and Virginia than the Midwest.

So I just had a lawn care company quote to mow my yard and they thought it was acceptable to quote me $425 to mow this lawn, I have absolutely had enough. I already called around to other companies because there is just no way this is a real price for a basic cut. This is getting completely out of hand. I literally mowed this yard myself before, and it didn’t even take that long. It’s not like this is a jungle with waist-high grass and hidden tree stumps everywhere. It’s a mostly open yard with barely any obstacles. No fences to weave around every five seconds, no steep hills, no insane landscaping. Just grass. And the craziest part is they acted like this was some kind of “deal.” A DEAL? I could practically buy a decent used mower for what they wanted to charge me to cut it one time. At this point I’m debating just buying a zero-turn and doing it myself because some of these quotes are absolutely unbelievable. Either that or finding some local guy with a mower and trailer that doesn’t think he’s operating a luxury landscaping empire. If anybody has recommendations for what I should do, let me know, because there’s no chance I’m paying nearly five hundred dollars to mow a lawn one time.

@shrededward @RobertTheMonk0 Corey Feldman is a weird white boy who thinks he can sing and dance, Elvis was a weird white boy who actually could sing and dance. Elvis wouldn’t have any problem becoming famous starting out now, hell of a lot easier to get world wide exposure.
