@ChasingWConnor @PettusWX If you could see the inside of the local fb groups you'd say otherwise 😂 I had people in my area last week complaining about no tornadoes and "they always get it wrong" as the Kankakee tor was still on the ground

The whole “cheer for no storms” argument being made by meteorologists is such a cope. The reason nobody will trust you next time there is a tornado outbreak forecasted is because you said the same thing for a setup like today which as of this morning (arguably 2 days ago) was never going to verify. Cheer now and next time there are violent tornadoes people will die because they don’t take the meteorologists seriously.

@TornadoClipss Lake city day had an OWS wayyyyyyyy bigger than today. I could see an outbreak today of shorter lived tors but storms dont have a lot of real estate especially with how fast the cold front is moving.

@NickKrasz_Wx There aren't many prolific supercells that I can think of that have a "jank" look on reflectivity (hook wise) but are currently producing higher-end tors.

@NickKrasz_Wx Did you notice any similarities in supercell structure from the Kankakee cell when it was near the Lake Village area? Obviously not the same intensity but similar cyclic nature with a less defined hook on reflectivity?

Any questions about the March 10 tornadoes or anything else the past few days? I know people have asked me a lot of questions lately, but I’ve been really busy with classes and packing up for Spring break so I haven’t had a chance to answer. Ask away in the replies!

@wxsteven @ChasingWConnor @Lincoln_Wx You should be able to pin point the exact time through his live stream and or through Max's stream? I can try and check when I get off work but I remember seeing this POV yesterday

This has me even more curious, do you have a rough timestamp on this Connor? I think around this time was when @Lincoln_Wx and I observed another tornado that developed to the north or northeast of the main Kankakee tornado which means we potentially had triplets down at some point.

Here is the Kankakee tornado as it crossed to my north near the town of St. Anne, IL. Large wedge-shaped tornado and as it became more rain wrapped a satellite tornado dropped on the SW side of the circulation. The 2nd picture I upped the contrast to see both of these features.

Faced with one of the most egregious scandals in DC history, House leadership, the White House, and Gonzales himself all agreed we would leave the decision up to the voters of Texas. Last night, Texas made their voice heard. For the first time in his career, Tony lost. We won.

@EvanFor2020 Brother no one is discrediting the offices, no one is belittling the the individual NWS employees who issue the warnings. Everyone is demanding an apology for a post on X like cmon. People are allowed to have opinions and we all have the end goal of keeping people safe.

@AdamLucioWX The Chicagoland area has some of the craziest QLCS tornado events and everyone Ive talked to thinks we ever get tornados. Im pretty sure the Woodridge EF3 and the Ohare EF2 are the only tors non weather folks think of for our area. At least for the last 10 years lol

When you say the word TORNADO to the public, they're not thinking about the QLCS process. They're not thinking of a spinup that breaks some limbs off trees, hurls leaves and tips over your shed. They're thinking of Joplin, they're thinking of Rolling Fork, etc etc. False alarm ratio is a thing. Complacency is a thing. That is why I don't believe we need 12 tornado warnings in a line to try and account for every possible brief ef-0 or ef-1 spinup. Two years ago NWS Chicago surveyed an EF-1 QLCS right over my uncle's house based off radar CC drops. Not a single person in the neighborhood had any damage. I asked, I patrolled every neighborhood group trying to find stuff (I grew up next to Midway Airport) The response was all the same. "What tornado, what? We just had some rain and 2 minutes of wind, everything is fine." IMO, thats not the perception to plant in people's minds of tornadoes. But this is a tricky situation, and as many have said, Damned if you do damned if you don't. Is the technical defection of a tornado met? Maybe in most cases...should the public take the time to get educated on this stuff? All us weather nerds would say yes....but thats not reality.

@AlphEatsCats @bschrives44 @MatthewCappucci @noah_emmert Completely agree. Even if I personally would rather receive a tornado warning for a possible tornado, most people do not. Warning complacency or the siren mentality directly contributed to a large number of injuries and deaths in 2011. People forget this sadly.

@GraceCWeather Unfortunately, you are the exception and not the rule and the data supports this. As crazy as it sounds to someone in the wx community, most people do not want a tornado warning for a possible tornado.

On the contrary, in Dec 2024 my house had a near miss from a high end ef-0 that was snapping telephone poles, unwarned and from a QLCS. Better to be proactive about rotation in QLCS’s than not.
Brad Arnold@BradArnoldWX

For the love of God, stop tornado warning every single storm! Textbook example of cry wolf and why the general public doesn’t take tornado warnings seriously. Want to cut down on the false report rate with tornado warnings? Stop this insanity.

@bschrives44 @MatthewCappucci @noah_emmert I think people are confusing critiquing the warning process with critiquing the literal people behind the desk. The point is we should be shooting for a lower false alarm rate, thats not attacking the employees who issue them, its hoping for a change in the process

@MatthewCappucci @noah_emmert Hey Matt, what is your solution here? Which QLCS are you warning and which are you letting slide if you’re on the warning desk?

@NickKrasz_Wx I talked to tons of people afterwards and they were confused why they were under a tornado warning. It was just another storm with another tornado warning to them. And since they didn't get impacted they took it as a false alarm. More people think like this than you would think.

Completely understand. I just think this QLCS in particular was fine being tornado warned in sever areas given its history of quickly developing tornadoes. Even if they’re weak, I’d much rather have a few dud warnings with maybe one tornado than not any at all, or just SVR warnings. If that makes sense.

@NickKrasz_Wx Thats the fine line thats difficult unfortunately. For example, I live in the Chicago suburbs and im sure you remember the Derecho that came through on 7/15/24. The whole line was producing tornadoes (some sig) so the NWS wanred the entire thing, it was warranted.

@NickKrasz_Wx Its not black and white obviously, he cares about the people these storms are impacting as much or more than any of us. Its not a slight on the individuals in the NWS, its a slight on the warning process that can cause complacency in everyday folks if they get them constantly.

@NickKrasz_Wx I would assume he just blocked a bunch of comments from the post, nothing personal. But you do have to understand there are other degreed meteorologists (also NWS employees) who agree with him. He's coming from experience and what he hears from the regular populis.
