If you could just go along with what you know to be a lie, pretend you think you’re a woman, and then win Olympic medals pretending to be a woman, and then secure a big Nike contract, and have ads made about you that celebrate you as an athlete and a victim of racism and misogyny who has overcome all of this to be an Olympic champion — then develop a stance of pure aggression and disdain towards the women who would say “I see you and you’re a man and cheat” … would you do it? Would you go along with the lie? The alternative would be running track and field in men’s (the category you belong in) and toiling in obscurity, never winning a local competition let alone an Olympic gold medal? And definitely never getting that big Nike contract. How far would you be willing to take the lie to gain all of the spoils? What do you think? Would you just do it?

This happens to me occasionally too. Probably less than to Akua, because I'm shorter. But for some people short hair and no make-up seems to signal "male" until I speak (or laugh). So what? If I found it upsetting, I suppose I could perform femininity. I can't be arsed.
Akua Reindorf KC@akuareindorf

Very tired of butch women being weaponised like this. I’ve been constantly “misgendered” my whole life (even when heavily pregnant). It’s no worse now than it’s ever been. It won’t kill me, and it’s not a reason to abandon privacy, dignity and safety for all women

@JenniferSey @Women___Exist Well, we know that Mr Semenya would. He has even admitted to refusing to read his own medical report in 2009, years before his first Olympic appearance.
Disabled, Esq.@DisabledEsq

From the autobiography of Caster Semenya @MightyCaster: “And if speed was all about testosterone, then why wasn’t I as fast as my male colleagues? An elite male athlete with natural testosterone levels in the accepted female range would still outrun me by the 10 percent to 12 percent performance gap.” Because you’re not an elite male athlete. You’re just a male athlete.

@KatarinaHill2 Oh good lord. The enablers though. I'm against corporal punishment but sometimes wonder whether a clip round the ear and "don't be so silly" wouldn't help.

An internal job listing currently live within the Cabinet Office for the role of Equality Legislation Advisor & Coordinator has been revealed. As part of the role (working in and with @bphillipsonMP's Women and Equalities Mission), the successful candidate will be required to: "Ensure all LGBT+ people are safe, included, and protected from discrimination including by delivering a full, trans-inclusive ban on conversion practices and also taking wider steps to improve trans equality." Geez, they really won't let this go, will they! @HeadWarriorTWM, @ThePosieParker, @LWSNorthEast , @StandingforXX, @WomensRightsNet, @SexMattersOrg, @TalkTV, @GBNEWS, @AllianceLGB

@WithBirdTattoo But you should have the grace to accept you aren’t a woman, cannot have 1st hand experience of endo, and defer to women’s voices and experience. Steph demands women accept her as female and speaks as if she is. She can’t accept science so advocating for women’s medicine is tricky

I've suffered with endo for 30+yrs, numerous surgeries, hysterectomy, puberty blockers etc. I've had male gynaecologists-I selected a male to perform my hysterectomy. I have no issue with a male advocating for women and vice versa. What I do object to is men like Richards who try and insert themselves into the category of 'woman' and align themselves with us. He will never suffer from endo or even have a period. He will never experience the women's pain-gap or medical misogyny. He has no right to appropriate our pain and struggles as his own. He has no right to say that endo is a disease that affects "us women".@JournalistJill @SexMattersOrg @AmandaPCraig @GMB

Steph Richards is a trans woman who works for the charity Endometriosis South Coast as their parliamentary engagement officer which is a voluntary role, but in the last week, she has seen a tsunami of hate directed her way. Some women online have called her appointment deeply offensive, but Steph says this is just another excuse for transphobia. Steph talks to @PaulBrandITV and @kategarraway

'Trans' people are quite visible to me. They're always shouting, screaming & banging drums, spraying paint, smashing windows, chasing women down the street, pissing on public buildings & setting off fire alarms. Can't avoid them. Perhaps I should stop going to women's meetings?
Emily Thornberry@EmilyThornberry

This Trans Day of Visibility, let's remember those too often overlooked in endless debates over trans rights: trans people. Trans men and women deserve our love and support, not exclusion and hate.

"It was a really difficult time, and sadly it did kind of taint my experience in the sport and at the Olympics in Rio." Former Team GB 800m runner Lynsey Sharp tells Sky's @SkyJacquie that new gene testing rules would have earned her Olympic bronze in 2016.
