It's a matter of supply and demand. If you constrain gun availability -- a lot of firearms are stolen -- then price goes up, and quantity demanded goes down.
It also mitigates against an arms race dynamic, so fewer lethal weapons.

It does make you wonder though, some of the most dangerous countries in the world have relatively low guns per 100 people.
Gun restrictions do not work.
In reality criminals will always find a way to get a gun, and if you go the restriction route, you are just disarming all the innocent people.
If everyone has guns it makes committing a violent crime a lot more risky, couple that with good self defense laws and the people of a country is a lot safer.

This is another example showing how Barack Obama is one of the most divisive figures in American politics today. So many of our divisions were caused by the smug, demeaning and narrow-minded way he treats his opponents.
Here, he pretends to not know the truth about the would-be assassin, although the facts of his left wing views were public hours before Obama’s tweet. It’s classic Obama - pretend to be conciliatory while he is the one who creates the divide.
You would hope that Obama would condemn the left after the left tries to kill a President.
But that’s too much to ask.

The creators named it the Billionaire Tax so you would get into a froth andwouldn't look closely at what it actually does to you. This Everyone Tax runs 34 pages of shifty language describing how the government plans to take your assets. Read the fine print and decide for yourself. If this were truly a billionaire tax, it would be 3 pages. It’s 34 pages so that it can create the mechanisms to steal from all of you.
