An excellent thread here from @mara_yamauchi. I truly admire her perseverance on this issue in the face of parkrun's continued failure to acknowledge that women matter too. Hopefully the perseverance pays off soon 🤞

Of course whatever challenge somebody makes up for themselves at an event is entirely irrelevant to whether the event provided is competitive or not.

Their opinions of parkrun vary though, Dame Kelly Holmes an outspoken advocate of it because of the physical and mental health benefits for all participating members of the local community.....

They don't interest me. The point is that position doesn't make it a race. A "race" is dictated by the ethos of the event.

It's narrated by Chris Packham though, known to be outspoken on the issue of humans contributing to climate change today. It's informative & fascinating.

@HarryVols2024 @therealmerkins @Maga4liberty Yes, but Co2 concentrations never been higher since we've been around than they are now. Zero evidence we can reduce them. Never have done. We stopped emitting as much during COVID, but Co2 takes a ages to dissipate, so no reduction likely anytime soon. More trees might help.

Judgementally stereotyping males identifying as female, based on isolated extreme examples, detracts from it imo, but I'm a man commenting on it.

@JennyAscendant Yes, and no chance of it being made to look any more like competitive sport before 2030 if ever! Categories and rankings more likely to go altogether if legal advisors deem them unlawful or the board decide they're out with those charitable objects. I've read your take on that.

It’s so telling how some rude men who do parkrun & are obviously fiercely competitive (& aggressive or they wouldn’t be so insulting) - don’t seem to care that women have rights too!

Final clarification for the day, since the lies are getting ridiculous. I'm not transphobic. I'm not driven by hatred. I'm driven by a desire for fairness. I simply refuse to believe people can change sex and refuse to accept that men ever belong in women's sports and spaces.

@kenjude @sharrond62 @jamesdavis6939 @parkrunUK It's a registered charity and free to enter, so not turning up won't directly reduce income, which is derived from charitable donations, sponsorships, milestone & other merchandise sales, and public funding received via Sports England.

@sharrond62 @jamesdavis6939 @parkrunUK I think they’re entrenched and will only change if their revenue streams are impacted i.e. if people vote with their feet. As long as everyone keeps turning up on a Saturday they have no reason to change given they seem to have hides as thick as a rhino’s.

No one wants to harm Parkrun @parkrunUK it is a fabulous event. I’m spent my life trying to get people more active. That will carry on. My point is a simply one of fairness & equality. 28 women’s records are held by men, over 200 1st places in the women’s category have gone to men. More every weekend. It’s demoralising for those women wanting those places & records. This only goes one way. Women just want their own course records & places based on the reality of biological sex, which matters in physical activity. There are ways that extra categories can be added. So records & places remain, which is what the vast majority want to happen, which proves there is a competitive element to Parkrun as it stands. Hence a 30k petition to bring them back. Everyone runs together dresses as makes them happy. Non of that changes but simply enable a fair female category for females please?
