@SpireJim To further solidify their grasp on power, they came up with the 'protect the sovereignty' bill...so that the opposition cannot seek for help from the neighbours! Bagala tunyiga nga tetuyina wetudukira!

@MrBusinge I'm sure the soldiers that raided the offices caused physical and psychological trauma to the staff of @DailyMonitor, not to mention financial losses. Has the government ever recompensed them?

Today in 2013, Gen David Sejusa wrote his famous letter alleging that there was a plot by Mr Museveni to make his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, succeed him as president. In the letter, Gen Sejusa, who was the coordinator of intelligence services at the time, wrote to the Internal Security Organization (ISO), calling for investigations into reports that top military officers, including Gen Salim Saleh and Gen Kale Kayihura, had hatched a plot to eliminate senior government officials opposed to the 'Muhoozi Project'. Gen Sejusa alleged that he was among those targeted, alongside Amama Mbabazi and the then CDF, the late Gen Aronda Nyakairima, which forced him to flee the country to London. The Daily Monitor would later, on May 7, 2013, break the story about the letter. They were subsequently shut down by the State, alongside KFM and Dembe, for 10 days. Their offices were ransacked and declared crime scenes. With time, the Muhoozi Project has become clearer. Gen Muhoozi, an active and serving military officer, has repeatedly affirmed his intention to succeed his father as president of Uganda, with a political outfit launched under his chairmanship for that very purpose. Gen Sejusa has since been vindicated. Some of those who wanted him crucified over the Muhoozi Project, are now seen hovering around Gen Muhoozi or purporting to be members of his political outfit.

Traders operating in Kampala’s Central Business District are expressing frustration after police blocked them from accessing Police Headquarters in Naguru, where their leaders under the Federation of Uganda Traders Associations are meeting a team from the Internal Security Organisation. The developments come following the release of Shs20 billion from the presidential emergency fund intended to support traders. #NTVNews 📹@bakermulinde

Editorial: When peaceful protest leads to prison, democracy the loser. Eight Ugandan activists who protested the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) were sentenced to 11 months, but by the time judgment came, they had already served eight months and 17 days on remand. In practical terms, punishment arrived before conviction. observer.ug/viewpoint/when…

@observerug If it is constitutional to voice one's dissatisfaction through peaceful protests, where does the @JudiciaryUG get the basis to imprison you? And don't say POMA.

Bloodline Isn’t Enough: Africa’s New Dynasties Must Choose Inhouse on Merit and Common Sense Too Across Africa, from President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea to Paul Biya in Cameroon, Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo (Brazzaville), and Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, long-ruling leaders are at varying stages of constructing political dynasties. In each case, sons are being positioned as successors, in a drift that echoes the monarchical habits of bygone eras rather than modern republican states. Yet even within these dynastic projects, uncomfortable questions persist. Why are daughters almost entirely absent from succession plans, even where they appear, by public record or private assessment, more clear-headed or administratively capable than their brothers? And in systems where these leaders often have multiple wives and children, including those born outside formal marriage, on what basis is legitimacy determined? Why should the able and promising son of a mistress be passed over in favour of the First Lady/Wife’s older son? If all are, in essence, the patriarch’s children, what hierarchy – legal, cultural, or politica – decides their worth? The question of primogeniture also sits uneasily in modern republics. Should succession favour the eldest son by tradition, or the most competent by merit? What of the thoughtful middle child, or the last born who has demonstrated restraint, intellect, or administrative skill? And where no autocrat's child meets the standard, why not consider a capable nephew or niece? At its core, the issue is not merely dynastic ambition, but the quiet suspension of common sense. Must the logic of family rule inevitably override competence, fairness, and the broader national interest?

I have noticed that many pple are addressing the protection of sovereignty bill without looking into the motives behind the bill in the context of security, our democracy, social aspects, etc It is absurd that everyone things his or her side must carry the day.

BoU Governor (Economics PhD, Liverpool): Sovereignty Bill will affect our reserves, and lead to significant currency depreciation. A country without reserves isn’t sovereign. I see the NRM has deployed @job_matua & @TumukundeTT—who are economically illiterate—to defend the Bill.
