Please pardon my late return to Twitter. I believe that with every new stage of life, one should undertake a new personal growth challenge, and as I take on my new role at @UgandaBreweries, becoming active on social media is one of the ways I’m challenging myself.

Yesterday, we launched our 2025 Sustainability Report, themed “A Sustainable Future in Every Drop.” This report is particularly important as it focuses on water, a vital resource for our planet, and also a key ingredient in the production of our beverages. Recognizing that sustainable communities need access to clean water, Uganda Breweries Limited has invested over UGX 5 billion in the past five years, under our ‘Preserve Water for Life’ program. Addressing climate change and water scarcity requires collective action, which is why partnerships are important. We have partnered with AidEnvironment for the protection of the Mt. Elgon catchment area and Rotary International for the restoration of Namananga Mabira Forest Reserve. We urge other stakeholders to join us in enhancing Uganda’s water security. Let’s work together for a sustainable future. Click the link below to get a more detailed overview of the report : lnkd.in/d2UPqAbe

Earlier this week, we bid farewell to our Managing Director, @Kilonzo_Andrew, who will be taking on a new assignment as MD of Kenya Breweries Limited – our sister brewer under EABL. I joined UBL while Andrew was already serving as MD, and I was individually impressed and inspired by his work ethic. He is a highly focused individual whose tenure has been nothing short of remarkable. Under his leadership, we were honored to earn the coveted Diageo Brewery of the Year award twice, which speaks to operational excellence, innovation, and the resilience of our teams. Beyond business performance, Andrew’s authentic leadership style earned him recognition as the Most People-Centred MD in Uganda at the 2024 HR Reveal Awards, a reflection of how deeply he valued people, culture, and inclusion. We celebrate Andrew not just for the milestones achieved, but for the inspiration he has given us as a leader who walked the talk, nurtured talent, and built bridges for the future. As he begins his new chapter at KBL, I extend our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes. Andrew, thank you for walking this journey with us - your impact will always be felt at Uganda Breweries. Godspeed!

On behalf of Uganda Breweries, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the Royal Family and the entire Tooro Kingdom on this historic 30th Coronation Anniversary. We are proud to stand with the Kingdom in a mutually beneficial partnership that fuels shared growth and allows us to celebrate life, every day, everywhere. This partnership is lived through the barley and sorghum from Tooro's hardworking farmers that form the heart of many of our products. It’s amplified through initiatives like our Learning for Life programme, which equips local youth with skills for the future. And it’s celebrated through our UGX 150 million contribution to support the Ekyoto Ha Mpango Festivities for these next two coronation anniversaries. This week, Fort Portal radiates with cultural pride, and it is an honour to play a part in it. Let’s raise a glass to His Majesty’s visionary leadership and to the continued prosperity of the Tooro Kingdom.

After 3 and a half rewarding years, my time as Managing Director of Uganda Breweries Limited is coming to a close. It has been a privilege to lead this exceptional team and to contribute to the brewery’s 79-year-strong legacy that intertwines celebrating life, every day, everywhere with business excellence. As a purpose-driven company I am proud of the socio-economic impact we have created in our communities, the sector and overall contribution to Government development objectives on farming, trade and job creation. I now leave Uganda Breweries in the capable hands of Felicite Nson who brings with her a wealth of experience and an impressive record of delivering growth and transformation across several Diageo markets. As Felicite officially takes the reins here at UBL, I will continue in my role until 30 September 2025, ensuring a seamless handover process before moving on to my next chapter as Managing Director, Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) in October. I am confident that under Felicite’s leadership, UBL will continue to thrive; building on our purpose that focuses on the development of great brands and great people. Please join me in warmly welcoming Felicite to Uganda Breweries Limited and I hope you will accord her the same famous Ugandan hospitality that I have enjoyed in my time here. It has been an honour to serve as Managing Director of UBL.

Last weekend in Kasese was truly special for me. Standing among friends, colleagues, and over 6,000 runners at the 4th #TuskerLiteRwenzoriMarathon, I was reminded of how powerful it is when people come together — not just to compete, but to connect, recharge and celebrate life. The marathon was a testament to the great relationship we've built with the organizers, led by Mr. @wekesa_amos. Their dedication and passion made this event an unforgettable experience. Running through Kasese’s stunning landscapes, I felt the spirit of this community and the warmth of its people. It was more than a marathon; it was a chance to step away from the rush of the city and reflect on the importance of balance, health and unity. In addition to the marathon itself, we had so many opportunities to connect with the friendly people of Kasese in various entertainment spots. We explored Uganda's beautiful lakes and national parks nearby and even watched the @UgandaCranes play their match against Senegal on a big screen together. The stage in Kasese came alive with talented Ugandan artists who graced us with their performances. I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to the organizers, our partners, and especially the people of Kasese for welcoming us once again with such open arms. But above all, congratulations to every participant. Each of you is part of what makes this event so meaningful. For me, this marathon was a reminder that wellness is not just physical- it’s about community, connection, and shared joy from experiences like these. And that’s something I will carry with me long after crossing the finish line!

I am incredibly proud of Uganda Breweries’ progress on our sustainability journey. Yesterday, we formalised a partnership with @NFAUG and @Rotary, committing UGX 372 million to enable the planting of 80,000 trees and restore the Namananga Central Forest Reserve. This collaboration aims to revive 459 hectares of forest cover that form a crucial part of the Mabira ecosystem as a wildlife corridor and vital water catchment for the Nalwe and Mugula streams. This commitment is further amplified by our internal staff-driven initiative, EcoChamps where our employees actively engage in environmental conservation. As we make strides towards the national forest cover target of 24% (up from 9.5% in 2015 to 13.3% in 2024), this change calls for more collective action. I extend my sincere appreciation to @NFAUG under Acting E.D., Stuart Maniraguha (represented by Martin Mwodi yesterday) and Rotary under Governors @KyeyuneKawooya & Martin Kitakule for their dedication & expertise. I also urge other businesses to join this cause as we look to turn over a new leaf towards resilience and a sustainable future for generations to come.

I am thrilled for our return to the Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open Championship, celebrating not only the growth of this incredible sport but also its debut in a stunning new location. Last year, I had the privilege of visiting the Lugazi Hills Course and witnessed firsthand the transformation underway to elevate it to world-class standards. The anticipation for this year's championship is already palpable as we prepare for an unforgettable experience that will captivate players and spectators alike. This year's Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship promises to unite golfers, golf enthusiasts and spectators eager to explore yet another jewel in the Pearl of Africa—the magnificent Lugazi Golf Course. And let's not forget the legendary "nineteenth hole," where none other than Johnnie Walker will host a celebration like no other. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the @UgandaGolfUnion and all our sponsorship partners who are walking with us on this journey to unlock golf's potential in such breathtaking destinations. We can't wait for another exhilarating showcase of sport and scenery in Lugazi. Keep Walking! #JWUGOpen2025

Last week, I had the privilege of moderating a high-level panel on “Illicit Trade & Market Integrity” at the @RICCONFERENCE (#RIC2025) in Kampala. It was a thought-provoking conversation that challenged us to confront the realities of illicit trade and, more importantly, to chart a path towards overcoming it. Illicit trade is not just an economic leak; it is a threat to public safety, a barrier to legitimate business growth, and a deterrent to investment. In Uganda’s alcohol industry, for instance, unregulated products bypass safety checks, drain government revenue, and create unfair competition for compliant manufacturers. Our panel brought together voices from the government, private sector, and civil society. They were Mr. Moses Kyomuhendo, Manager of Enforcement Operations at @URAuganda , @OscarKamukama , a Board Member at the @EABCjumuiya , @EngJamesKasigwa , the Executive Director of @UNBSug , @ByaruhangaJuliu , the Director of Policy and Business Development at @PSF_Uganda , and Mr. Allan Ssenyondwa, the Director of Policy Research and Advocacy, @newsUMA . (UMA). We explored actionable solutions such as; •Leveraging technology to track excisable products. •Integrating small-scale manufacturers into the formal economy. •Strengthening enforcement and collaboration across the value chain. The takeaway was clear: safeguarding market integrity is a shared responsibility. When we act together, we protect livelihoods, secure revenue, and uphold consumer trust. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this conversation.

Back to work now, but still basking in the magic of Sunday's Rise N Brunch at Mestil Hotel. There was something truly special about dressing up to simply savor the moment without a formal agenda. It was a nice reminder that joy often resides in the little things like timeless music and wonderful company in the spaces between our routines. A round of applause to Tanqueray and all the organizers for curating such a delightful experience. We certainly embraced and had fun with the 'Summer Chic' theme of this edition. Here's to more opportunities to dress up, unwind, and toast to life's beautiful moments outside the usual grind.

Today, I want to shine a spotlight on an extraordinary Ugandan scientist whose work is transforming agriculture across Africa, @CLNakalembe (Dr Catherine Nakalembe). Dr. Nakalembe is the leader of NASA’s Harvest Africa program. She is using cutting-edge satellite technology to revolutionize how we approach food security on our continent. She works to help farmers and governments across the globe to make informed decisions about agriculture and resource management by providing Early warning systems for storms and floods, predictive analysis for crop yields and growing seasons, and critical data that shapes government policies on drought mitigation. The Impact of her work extends far beyond data points; it's saving, protecting livelihoods, and building resilient communities across Africa. In fact, some of her exceptional contributions have earned global recognition: 2019 Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Individual Excellence Award,2020 Africa Food Prize, and 2022 Al Summit Prize for African Development. She represents the best of innovation and scientific excellence and living proof that African scientists are also pioneers, creating solutions for global challenges. Scientists like Dr. Nakalembe show us the power of combining local knowledge with advanced technology to build a more food secure future. 📸Courtesy photo

I had several reasons to celebrate with my fellow Rotarians & friends over the weekend. First, with the #Kigo7LakesInstallation of @KKariisa as our new Club President, second, with the official induction of our very own Josephine Njoroge into the Rotary Club of Kigo 7 Gold & third, a special salute to our immediate past President, John Muchiri, whose legacy of service has strengthened our @Kigo7Lakes community. I extend my congratulations to Mr Kariisa on his accession to Club President and to Josephine for embracing service to humanity.

The last financial year was one of significant milestones for UBL and my team under Corporate Relations. Milestones that reflect our continued commitment to sustainability, youth empowerment, and business excellence. Through our Learning for Life program and the Diageo Bar Academy, we trained 366 young Ugandans, of whom 211 were females, equipping them with practical skills for success in the hospitality industry. We believe in nurturing the next generation of talent to drive inclusive growth. Our communications team was recognized by the @PRAU_Uganda for excellence in storytelling and stakeholder engagement. We were also proud to receive the National Environment Sustainability Award from @nemaug in recognition of our efforts in circular waste management and environmental responsibility. Our brand's portfolio continues to make an impact, with multiple recognitions at the @silverbacksug Awards for brand excellence and innovation. Bell Lager, Tusker Lite, Johnnie Walker, Tusker Malt, and Uganda Waragi were big winners. We installed a solar-powered mini water system, reaffirming our commitment to sustainable, community led development that improves lives while supporting our environmental goals. Not to mention the continuous engagements with our farming communities to elevate their communities and source raw materials locally at all times. As we look to the future, we remain committed to creating value that goes beyond business, impacting people, communities, and the planet.

It was a privilege to address the #SheWalks Mentorship Programme last Friday. Born from Johnnie Walker's "Keep Walking" mission, #SheWalks celebrates women who stride forward (often uphill but always with purpose) in boardrooms, businesses & beyond. On Friday, we celebrated one year of honouring that very walk. It’s been an honour to witness this initiative grow from a spark into a full movement now resonating across Africa. A special thank you to @RachelDumba, along with Johnnie Walker Brand Manager, Tina Kyokunda, whose vision brought #SheWalks to life. Under Diageo’s Society 2030 agenda, we look to a future where diversity is the norm and mentorship programs like this are instrumental in bringing every voice to the table. To everyone who joined us including Hon. @AKyambadde and the evening’s exceptional keynote speaker, Ms. Lynda Biribonwa, here’s to your incredible strides and the bold steps yet to come. Johnnie Walker and Uganda Breweries will keep walking beside you and creating spaces that celebrate your journey.

Last Friday, we celebrated women uniting to uplift, inspire, and lead. As we mark one year of Johnnie Walker’s #SheWalks mentorship program, it was an honor to toast to the transformative power of intentional mentorship and allyship amongst this collection of leaders, entrepreneurs, executives, creatives, and rising stars. At Uganda Breweries, we've learned that diversity and inclusion aren't just a box to tick; it's a business imperative that drives better decisions, stronger stakeholder relationships, and builds more resilient organizations. Special thanks to our host and valuable Member of the Board, @RachelDumba , and Christine Kyokunda, our Johnnie Walker Brand Manager, for initiating this program that is growing into a whole continental movement of its own. Our guest speaker, the amazing Lynda Biribonwa, Chairperson of the Board of Directors at the Petroleum Authority of Uganda, shared her incredible journey up the steep corporate ladder to her current position and inspired us to be unapologetically bold with our dreams. While we celebrate how far we’ve come and look to the hills still to climb, I extend my deepest thanks to the mentees, mentors, and the progressive gentlemen who support women in leadership. The future is brighter because you choose to walk with purpose.

But the damage goes beyond personal health: 1. Health burden: Treating complications from unsafe alcohol strains our already limited healthcare resources. 2. Lost revenue: Illicit traders evade taxes, costing Uganda trillions in lost revenue every year. 3. Undermining regulation: These products bypass safety checks, undercut legitimate businesses, and undermine industry standards. 4. Social cost: Illicit alcohol is often linked to increased domestic violence, unsafe behavior, and broken families. At @uaia_ug, we’re working with @GovUganda, law enforcement (@PoliceUg), and community leaders to strengthen enforcement against illicit production and distribution, educate the public on the dangers of consuming unregulated products, promote safe, traceable, and responsible alternatives. Join us to say NO to illicit alcohol. This fight to #EndIllicitAlcohol is for us all.
