The show of support comes as Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi opened his nation’s embassy in Jerusalem during his first official visit to Israel, highlighting the deepening relationship between the two countries. The move represents a significant diplomatic milestone for Israel, which became the first country in the world to recognize Somaliland in December. The Muslim-majority nation, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991, joins seven other nations with embassies in the Israeli capital. While Kosovo opened a Jerusalem embassy in 2021, Somaliland becomes the second Muslim-majority territory to do so.

When others denied our statehood and sought to dismiss the inalienable right of the people of the Republic of Somaliland to determine their own destiny, Israel affirmed that right! Therefore, a friend who stands beside you in moments of isolation cannot be equated with those who oppose your existence or deny your aspirations. For this reason, the Government and people of Israel hold a special and enduring place in the hearts of Somalilanders who cherish their nationhood, their freedom, and their future. *What binds Somaliland and Israel together?* What binds Somaliland and Israel together is not a common religion, culture, language, or ancestry! What binds Somaliland and Israel is a history shaped by hardship and sacrifice, a determined struggle for survival, and the enduring memory of atrocities and persecution endured by both our peoples, yet refused to surrender their identity. To those who deny the existence of Somaliland and Israel, we respond with one united voice: We exist! We have endured! And we shall continue to endure.
