This is from our lab, and I’d add an important nuance.
The study showed that naked mole-rat HAS2 increased high-molecular-mass hyaluronic acid in mice. The result was lower cancer incidence, reduced inflammation, improved healthspan, and modest lifespan extension.
But this is not “one longevity gene.” Longevity is a whole-system trait. The exciting part is that comparative biology can reveal mechanisms evolved in long-lived species that we may eventually learn to mimic for human healthspan.
