@OnDisasters I’ve seen this clip many times and only today found out it was Voyager 2, which I watched launch from Cocoa Beach.

This legendary sequence from the 1978 BBC series Connections is often remembered as the "greatest shot in television history," it actually shows the launch of the Voyager 2 space probe atop a Titan IIIE rocket.

Heathrow is fine if it's within the same terminal. Less so between terminals, especially T4. CDG is similar. Frankfurt should be simple, but if Schengen>non then it always seems like multiple checkpoints and UK arrivals often get a bus gate. JFK is better now BA/AA share a terminal, but Global Entry is vital for tight transfers.

Air Safety #OTD by Francisco Cunha
OTD in 1957: BEA Flight 411, a Viscount, crashes in Manchester (England), all 20 aboard and 2 on the ground die. On approach, aircraft suddenly went out of control. Cause traced to metal fatigue in bottom bolt securing flaps, causing them to fail and stay in a locked position.

@MaxK_J Couldn't help noticing on the south side this morning the LY B787 sandwiched between two QR and one EY aircraft...

Nowhere to go… 2 of the 3 displaced Emirates A380s parked at LHR awaiting re-opening of Gulf airspace (and DXB): A6-EEU (“Destination Dubai”) and A6-EEC (with Etihad 787 tail-on in background). Also GF 789. I believe a total of 15 EK, EY, KU, QR & GF twin-aisles are parked @ LHR

@finn_mcredmond Complete agreement re Charing Cross Road, but I'm going to be that pedant that points out "the British Airports Authority" hasn't existed since the mid 1980s.

I was sent to the West End this week to investigate how London treats its tourists. If the way we feed each other is a measure of how we feel about each other, then - well - London must really hate its visitors. My latest food column for the NS, out now!

Can’t beat an unplanned QR837 BLK-DOH on the uglybus. Delicious food, super friendly service combined with some fine champagne which was followed by a few large drams of The Macallan. I came back from the bar to a cosy bed prepared for a few hours of rest.

To celebrate the launch of my second book #JUMBO today, the Hong Kong skyline was graced with some beautiful photos of 747’s projected on a building. Let’s see if we can get #JUMBO trending today by please posting your favourite 747 photos with the JUMBO hashtag. Have a great day

Air Safety #OTD by Francisco Cunha
OTD in 1985: Iberia Airlines Flight 610, a B-727 crashes in Bilbao (Spain), all 148 aboard die. On approach, jet hit a TV antenna in CFIT. Report noted pilot actions - “overconfidence in Altitude Alert and misinterpretation of its warnings” and a likely altimeter misreading.

Fact: The 1979 hit song ‘Pop Muzik,’ which contains the famous lyrics, ‘New York, London, Paris, Munich,’ was inspired by an answer from our Customer Services, after the band asked, ‘where’s our fu**ing luggage?’

@osborne_bella If any consolation, I once went to a book signing with Griff Rhys-Jones and was the only person there. It did give me the chance of a lovely chat, but shows it can happen to the best 🙂
