Crude is nearly back to pre West Asia war levels. Fuel prices in India and Nepal were similar then, but now petrol costs NPR 163/L and diesel NPR 144/L in Delhi, while in Nepal they’re NPR 216/L and NPR 224/L. The numbers don’t add up. Who’s profiting? Is India overcharging us?

I advised dear Tarique Rahman here to stop playing balancing games with India-China ties and focus only on Bangladesh’s national interests (even if they go against Indian interests). He tried to balance India by choosing Malaysia instead of China for his first foreign visit. What did India do in reply? They insulted his adviser Zahid Rehman at Delhi airport and Zahid returned to Dhaka from there. Treat India normally, just focus on your own interests which align naturally with China, stop giving unnecessary importance to New Delhi.

Nepali Media is reporting that Indian military helicopter carrying a high-ranking security official flew deep into Nepali territory without permission. "We have verified that the Indian military helicopter entered Nepali airspace without the required prior permission from the government of Nepal," said Mohan Singh Dhami, the assistant chief district officer of Darchula. According to him, the director general of the ITBP was reportedly on his way to inspect the military barracks at Gunji in the Kalapani area, but the weather that day was completely clear. There was absolutely no meteorological emergency or technical distress that could justify this detour.

I travelled through Great Nicobar today. These are the most extraordinary forests I have ever seen in my life. Trees older than memory. Forests that took generations to grow. The people on this island are equally beautiful - both the adivasi communities and the settlers - but they are being robbed of what is rightfully theirs. The government calls what it is doing here a “Project.” What I have seen is not a project. It is millions of trees marked for the axe. It is 160 square kilometres of rainforest condemned to die. It is communities that have been ignored while their homes have been snatched away. This is not development. This is destruction dressed in development’s language. So I will say it plainly, and I will keep saying it: what is being done in Great Nicobar is one of the biggest scams and gravest crimes against this country’s natural and tribal heritage in our lifetime. It must be stopped. And it can be stopped - if Indians choose to see what I have seen.
