'FANG FANG' FALLOUT: Rep. Eric Swalwell is threatening to sue the FBI as the bureau reportedly considers releasing files on his relationship with suspected Chinese spy Christine 'Fang Fang' Fang. The letter sent to FBI director Kash Patel claims the bureau would violate federal privacy law if it moves ahead with releasing records regarding the congressman’s decade-old relationship with Fang Fang, dating back to when she helped fundraise for Swalwell’s 2014 House re-election campaign.

What Nick Cannon said is exactly how misinformation spreads. Yes, the KKK was tied to Southern Democrats in the 1800s. That part is true. But leaving out what happened next changes the entire meaning. In the 1960s, after Lyndon B. Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the racists who supported segregation did not just disappear… They left the Democratic Party and shifted politically. That is a huge part of the story that keeps getting left out. AND THAT MATTERS. Because when we, especially Black voices with big platforms, repeat half stories, it does not just stay a conversation. It spreads and it can be used against us. We cannot afford to be loud and wrong at the same time, especially right now.

It’s called public safety. This man was having a tough day and unfortunately took it out on a random person. It doesn’t help public safety to keep a Black man in a cage and then let him out after years of sitting enraged in prison. The safest option is to get him counseling and anger management. Putting him in prison doesn’t bring back the old man.

When I was younger, I never heard about anybody going to therapy unless they were a war veteran or victim of some horrific crime. And people were saner and better regulated back then. I'm not convinced modern therapy helps most people. The opposite is possible.

The mayor of a city with that demographic reality saying ICE is not welcome during a major international event is not ignorance of geography. It is a direct response to what her constituents have told her they are afraid of.
