Okay, so I need your help... I’m building a tool (Lebogo) to help small businesses keep customers coming back... I’ve got 3 free lifetime spots left for early adopters. If you know a barbershop, café, laundromat etc in Joburg — please plug me 🙏🏾

During a meeting just now, I heard my kids screaming. Then they rushed into my room to let me know there was a snake in the house! I had to leave the meeting to remove it. That's a first for me.

Just deposited another check for my MSBuild book which is about 15 years old. I can't believe it's still the best reference for MSBuild. Someone needs to step up and write a new one. Not it.

Hey, fellow oldies, what was it we called the last stage of the waterfall when we decided it could be deployed? We had a word for that in the 80s and 90s, but darned if I can remember it. it wasn't "approval" or "qualification" but something else...

I have a new piece up. It's a bit of a rant, even for me, so buckle in. A lot of "thought leaders" have been making their mortgages lately off of bits on how AI is going to replace software engineers, particularly entry-level engineers. stackoverflow.blog/2024/06/10/gen…
Stack Overflow@StackOverflow

It's easy to generate code, but not so easy to generate good code. Contributor @mipsytipsy makes the case for hiring junior developers and treating your engineering team like a delicate ecosystem, and why GenAI tools can only take so devs far. stackoverflow.blog/2024/06/10/gen…

A common perspective is "my productivity is far more important than our productivity," largely because people have been taught that role success depends on the difference between your perceived skill and the perceived skills of your peers. Role success v. real success.

@ajcpi @deejaygraham I'm told that really rich people need more tax breaks because they pay so much more than poor people do. Yes, any % of millions is more than the same % of thousands or hundreds, that doesn't mean they NEED breaks.

@afilina @allenholub Don’t know the name but it’s sort of misapplication of cohesion? Thinking of Tom de Marco “Cohesion is a measure of the strength of association of the elements inside a module. A highly cohesive module is a collection of statements and data items that should be treated..”

So many people make the mistake of breaking things down into smaller pieces along the wrong seams, and then sharing state or adding unreasonable back-and-forth chatter, making complexity unbearable. Is there a name to this anti-pattern?
