SNAP does have real cuts but with goal of causing states to pay a greater share and to require work for working aged adults. That would have seemed reasonable at any point in US history.

I don't know how Speaker Johnson can say that with a straight face when the Big Ugly Bill slashed Medicaid, SNAP, and so many other programs working Americans rely on to get by. Their bill was billionaires first and working people last.

@BarackObama If states have full skin in the game, they will behave differently. However, Medicaid expansion to other services, in the interest of holistic health, have led states to expand into programs that they have poorly administered (leading to waste, possibly fraud).

The day the Affordable Care Act passed was one of my proudest moments as president, because it meant that millions of Americans would have access to health care, some for the first time. The ACA also prevented insurance companies from denying people with pre-existing conditions coverage, allowed young people under the age of 26 to remain on their parents’ plan, expanded Medicaid, and so much more. But the ACA was always meant to be a first step. We still have to do more to expand access and make health care more affordable for everyone.
