As ITV unveil there super-snazzy Brooklyn studio for the World Cup I do feel a bit for the BBC who will broadcasting games back in Salford.
The location will have cost ITV a fortune and the BBC can’t win… if they go then there is criticism every day about the cost and, if they don’t go, they get hammered for staying at home.
Must feel very distant at the moment though.

World Cup tickets remain unsold, hotel rooms unbooked across US host cities, overpriced travel to and from matches – even threats of deportation for some fans.

My England World Cup Song. This could be out of date in two weeks. Listen while it’s still relevant! Come on England. 🏴🏴🏴🏴#theWorldCup

This man was banned because of his nationality and for no other reason. FIFA did nothing to help him, not even lodge a protest. Ugh bbc.co.uk/sport/football…

@hughlaurie @jan_murray Thank you both.

Thanks for your critique, Janet. We actually tried a couple of episodes where House (Hugh Laurie) (please put the brackets in the right place) gets it right first time, but they were only 6 minutes long. NBC weren’t happy. Then we tried some where House never gets it right and the patient dies. The audience wasn’t happy.
One could apply your trenchant analysis to other art forms: JS Bach wrote 30 Goldberg variations on the same chord structure; Frida Kahlo painted 50 portraits of herself; Henry Moore, what??
The point is, or was, variations on a theme; if all you see is hospital, medical blah blah, then it wasn’t meant for you.
Nonetheless, I look forward to your first novel!

Late to the party, but I've started watching Season 1 of House. Same narrative every episode:
Patient has mysterious illness.
Hugh Laurie (House) gets diagnosis wrong.
Patient nearly dies.
Hugh Laurie gets diagnosis wrong again.
Gets threatened with being fired.
Patient nearly dies again.
Hugh Laurie has last minute leftfield idea.
Gets diagnosis right.
Doesn't get fired.
Eight seasons of this?

@simonmontefiore Looking forward to reading this. Why do books still always come out in hardback first? Let's get straight to the paperback please. It's not about the cost but a paperback is much easier to handle / transport etc

In fairness he also says “it would be the last thing I do in public life”, so he wasn’t completely wrong.

In a handwritten note, Peter Mandelson tells David Lammy he will “never regret it” if he is appointed ambassador to Washington…

@waller_rowan Apparently he decided not to board The White Ship and cross the channel with Henry’s son and heir, the Aetheling, because he had the runs. Thus avoiding drowning. I’m sure I talk about that in one of those 2 episodes. Glad you’re enjoying it.
English

Hey @monstroso - very much enjoying WWHS, but can I ask… you finish Henry I with a line about King Stephen’s life being saved by a bout of diarrhoea… but you didn’t mention it in the following chapter (King Stephen)… what’s the story? Or is it told later? Ta!

Wasn't it due to people on Ecstasy becoming dehydrated in clubs that water was made a requirement if needed?
