Global gold funds are showing the first signs of recovery since the Iran war began: World gold-backed ETFs posted +9 tonnes of gold inflows in the week ending April 3rd, the highest since the last week of February. This comes after 4 consecutive weekly outflows of -88 tonnes following the outbreak of the Iran war. The largest US gold-backed ETF, $GLD, alone added 7 tonnes last week, bringing total holdings to 1,054 tonnes, the highest since March 20th. $GLD's holdings are still -47 tonnes below the early March peak of 1,101 tonnes, which marked the highest level since April 2022. Meanwhile, holdings in the silver-backed ETF, $SLV, fell -24 tonnes over the last week, to 15,264 tonnes, near the lowest since November. Investors are rotating back into precious metals.

The couple who accidentally received $10 million from Crypto com - Thevamanogari Manivel - Jatinder Sing May 2021 - Singh tries to deposit 100 AUD into a Crypto com account - the transaction fails due to a name mismatch - support processes a refund but something goes wrong a Crypto com employee in Bulgaria enters the wrong number in a spreadsheet instead of typing the refund amount they paste Manivel’s bank account number into the “amount” field the system sends 10.47 million AUD instead of 100 AUD the money lands directly in Manivel’s bank account the next day - Singh notices the balance - the couple begins moving the money over the following months around 6 million AUD disappears spent on: - four houses and land in Melbourne - a luxury home in Craigieburn - expensive cars - artwork and furniture - large cash gifts at one point even $1 million is given to a friend while this is happening Crypto com still hasn’t noticed December 2021 - an internal audit finally catches the mistake - the exchange realizes 10.47 million AUD was refunded by accident they contact the bank and try to reach the couple Singh reportedly responds saying he thinks it’s a scam March 2022 Manivel is arrested at Melbourne Airport - carrying $11,000 cash - holding a one-way ticket to Malaysia Singh is arrested shortly after Crypto com launches civil proceedings the court freezes assets including houses and bank accounts 2023 the County Court of Victoria delivers its verdict Singh - convicted of stealing 4.42 million AUD - sentenced to 3 years in prison most of the money is recovered a $100 refund that accidentally turned into 10 million dollars.
