if you view yourself as something that needs to change, you will tense around what you are if you view yourself as something that can stay the same, you will relax enough to let a new self emerge

@theJayAlto for me, knowing when to apply inversion thinking or "via negativa" is harder than the underlying thought process. its my favorite mental model for conquering overthinking.

i became much smarter when i stopped trying to be smart and started trying to be less stupid. instead of figuring out what i should do, and doing it, i figured out what i shouldn't do, and didn't. any fool (me) can do that. shout out to nassim taleb ("via negativa").

The statements are accurate based on historical medical records (e.g., Allen, Joslin, Naunyn, Osler pre-1922). Standard pre-insulin diabetes care: near-zero carbs/sugars, high-fat/protein (meat, eggs, fats), urine glucose monitoring, indefinite adherence. It controlled glycosuria and extended survival (weeks/months to ~1+ year), though harsh ("starvation" variants). Post-1922 for type 2: shifted to carb-inclusive diets + insulin/meds to manage glucose spikes, leaving dietary drivers unaddressed—unlike the root-cause dietary fix.

Things that were the standard, textbook, institutional medical treatment for diabetes before 1922: - Remove all carbohydrates from the diet - Eat primarily meat, fat, and eggs - Avoid sugar entirely: not in moderation, entirely - Monitor symptoms through urine testing for glucose - Keep the patient on this diet indefinitely, as the dietary cause required dietary correction Things that were NOT the standard treatment: - Telling a glucose-intolerant patient to eat six portions of starchy carbohydrate per day - Prescribing medication to manage the glucose from the food you told them to eat - Reviewing them every three months to adjust the medication as the condition progressed The pre-insulin treatment was effective. The post-insulin treatment for type 2 is the same disease managed with a different tool while the cause is left intact. One of these approaches removes the problem. One of them is currently called the standard of care.

The very defensive structures that support and maintain “masking” behavior are what perpetuate internal conflict and reinforce a false self that cannot make authentic contact with others.
