...I've had to add a warning to my hand-made Xmas cards this year: KEEP AWAY FROM A HEAT SOURCE & FAMILY PETS but this one from a previous year nearly caused a fire when it fell off a mantelpiece, set off an asthma attack & was attacked by a cat (not all in the same household!)😼

We know that #Christmas is a magical time of year, and maybe even the time that some of us dare to make a Christmas wish or two. But let us tell you a story about a group of males who were lucky enough to receive a ‘Wish’ they didn’t even ask for… Last night, we received three separate reports of males trying car doors and houses in Upton. A silver Astra was linked to the males, and we received one report of forced entry and property stolen. Our officers were deployed to the area, with one of our trusty @MerPolDogs, Wish, to check it out. PD Wish was straight on the case. She checked out all three of the locations the males had been spotted, and quickly located an item of clothing two streets away. Determined to finish the job she started, she took her handlers to a nearby river and signalled she wanted to get across. Just as she did, the silver Astra pinged our Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems and a pursuit took place. The males must have thought a Christmas miracle had happened, as initially they managed to lose the officers in the pursuit. However, they were in no such luck when the Astra was later spotted parked outside an address. Entry was forced and all males were arrested. So, our message to criminals this Christmas is: be careful what you ‘Wish’ for, because it might just come true. Paddy 'Mr Hope Street' Byrne is retiring. After 54 years of being involved in arts, culture and hospitality, Paddy is set to enjoy life on the other side of the bar. Paddy owned the iconic Everyman Bistro, and more recently The Pen Factory - which will reopen under new mgmt.
