@Knoxteaparty @SCOTUSPOTUS @WillRicci @stanfordNYC She receives the services of the police department, the fire department, the roads, the sewage, the trash, the courts, the building inspectors, etc etc etc. So working people should foot the bill to protect her investment?

@SCOTUSPOTUS @WillRicci @stanfordNYC Since you brought it up you've got me thinking--I'm not sure why we tax her property at all. It's hers. Just bc she has it doesn't give us a right to it, or expectation we can put on her for it. She earned it. It's not like she borrowed something from us and we want it back.

A retired, empty-nester couple feeling pressure to downsize because their property tax keeps rising as their home appreciates—is exactly how the system SHOULD work.

Almost a year ago SF banned rent-fixing software and yet it still had the largest increase in rent in the country YoY for May (per ApartmentList). Guys, in case it's not obvious, RealPage and AirBnB are not the boogeymen.
Lee Hepner@LeeHepner

Boom. San Francisco just passed a first-in-nation ban on rent-fixing software like RealPage, which has been used to hike rents, restrict supply, and increase evictions. “This is pro-housing policy. We aim to be a model for the nation.”

In NYC it costs... * $4-5M to build a park bathroom * $70-$100m to make a subway station accessible (elevators etc) * $600k-$750k to build a single unit of affordable housing These costs threaten our future. How did this happen? 1/

San Francisco’s $14.6B budget is larger than 17 U.S. states, including New Mexico ($10.5B), Alabama ($12.6B), and Oklahoma ($12.6B). The scale of our government is massive—that’s why we need competent leaders in City Hall who can manage it effectively and ensure accountability.

@OGJoeyLK @justinamash so effectively grant the president an incontestable veto power?

@justinamash Yes, impoundment. The Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974 needs to be repealed or ruled unconstitutional. I believe the Trump admin will be challenging this.

Many people are claiming a president must spend whatever Congress has appropriated. While this is generally true, it is not true in the absolute sense. A president can legitimately refuse to spend money if he or she believes and asserts that the specific spending is unconstitutional. The president’s discretion here is connected to an aspect of the separation of powers that is often ignored or mistakenly denied. Each branch has an independent obligation to interpret and uphold the Constitution within its sphere of power and responsibility: making laws, executing laws, or deciding cases.

The city is demanding that this $700/month sleeping pod company pay a $300,000 in-lieu fee for affordable housing. This is the logic of Inclusionary Zoning: we tax new cheap housing for working people to fund low-income housing subsidies, all while rich homeowners pay nothing.
Autumn Looijen@autumnlooijen

This is frankly embarrassing.

@AlanMCole A printer is basically a tiny factory, an automated device for producing physical objects. There’s nothing else like that in your home, normally automated production things are maintained by experts. It’s actually shocking home printers work as reliably as they do.

The success rate on home printers actually getting the job done is what, 90% at best? What is the deal? Why do we not do this function reliably?

#sanfrancisco specific homelessness/budget take Between FY2019-FY23, SF spent 2.5 billion dollars on homelessness services. During that time the homelessness population was basically flat. This isn't politically sustainable.

Prosperity and abundance agenda. We have focused on saving people money through three income tax rate reductions (two at the ballot box and one through the leg: 4.63%>4.5%>4.4%>4.25%), cutting property taxes, free preschool and kindergarten for every child, eliminating sales tax on necessities like diapers and feminine hygiene products, and we are in the process of delivering on pro-housing supply solutions, investing in transit and transit-enhanced living opportunities… all while protecting and expanding personal freedom and respect for everyone

A random District 1 neighbor just emailed me this video with the subject line "This says it all". It perfectly encapsulates what D1 residents have been experiencing for the past 3.5 years with Connie Chan at the helm. Ignored. No voices heard. No seat at the table. No response or reply. Zero acknowledgement. Zero respect. Pick an issue and we can debate and discuss it all day long...that's how our civic contract is supposed to work. But when our leaders refuse to listen to us, or even acknowledge us, that's when things fall apart. I wonder how this exasperated father explained Chan's behavior to his daughter (in the pink jacket at the very end). @bettersoma @Soar_D1 @GrowSF @growtherichmond @KidSafeSF @walksf @whentoletgo @incitafusio @garrytan @alanburradell @VoteandChangeSF @adampnathan @zack @MylesPynchon @MikeEge @sfstandard @CDilligaff @TMcGreenberg @lowden @Bobakkabob37 @SFDemocrats
