I am ashamed to have been a member of a sect of the Protestant church that continues to deliberately coddle racists in its churches and broader organizations, and attack those who warn others. I will never allow myself to be in that position again.

@RonManess2 Due to the current framing of debates, people tend to assume that any cases of women leading or teaching implies egalitarianism, whereas historically many held that the clear rule was male-only, but that some exceptional situations existed. Many people struggle to process this.

Both complementarians and egalitarians can struggle to distinguish any departure from absolute male-only teaching in mixed ecclesial bodies from implicit support for egalitarianism.

Wesley appointed women as lay preachers, not as priests, arguing for it as a temporary expedient (the practice was discontinued in 1803). He distinguished his position from that of the Quakers, arguing that they failed to observe the rule of women's silence in 1 Corinthians 14.

@FoundersMin @tomascol @GundenGraham He can only say that from where he stands. From his perspective, there is nowhere to drift but leftward, when your back is already against the right wall.

(I intentionally said "all" women love pockets in order to draw out the "I hate pockets" women, because that's how social media works, and because I occasionally enjoy poking the bear.😀🐻)

Theology 101 POP QUIZ! Without searching, who said it? “We maintain that human nature is in no way able to seek after God...without the help of Him whom it seeks."

@zugzwanged Have you had occasion to look at Gregg Allison recent book Complementarity? It was interesting in that one of the reviewers called it a third way, while another said it was not a third way.

NT Wright, CS Lewis, Tim Keller, and others I admire who did or do not believe in the special creation of Adam and Eve as the first humans, were/are just plain wrong.

@realmattcarr @cothran_tom May want to consider taking it down and reposting with the correct list of names. No reason to leave it up with clearly false information about a fellow brother in Christ.

@realmattcarr The key principle is this: The Book of God's Revelation (the Bible), rightly interpreted, is inerrant. The Book of Nature (also God's revelation), rightly interpreted, is also inerrant. And they are not in conflict. God doesn't play games. Augustine understood this.

@realmattcarr @buck5575 And I hope folks weren't deceived by your inclusion of Keller in your original comment. In the video, he was clearly emphatic on special creation of Adam and Eve. That's how these false narratives about Keller get started. So a clear apology would be helpful.

@buck5575 They are far above me in intellect and in many other ways. Someone in the know just informed me that Keller was on my side. But death before the fall, evolutionary production of humanity, hominids chosen to "be" the first humans... none of this is consistent with the text.

“Suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with 10,000 men to oppose the one coming against him with 20,000? If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace.” Luke 14:31-32

I've been preaching Acts since August of last year. I'm in chapter 13, having read nearly 400 pages of Schreiner's Acts commentary. It would be difficult to overstate just how good it is.
